Just wondering. I've seen new versions of the books it and gunslinger at the stores bc of the movies. Now I know king gets a piece of sales from the books but does he make any money from the movies. I know if a song artist puts out a song that is a remix from a song from the 60s they have to pay a percentage to the original or risk lawsuit. I.e. vanilla ice song ice ice baby. It's stolen from the song urgent and he never got permission. Since the movie title is the same as the book would king own the rights and have to give permission and get paid royalties?

Film rights are sold usually entirely, i.e., the author gets his or her payment and that's it. It's pretty rare for an author to get money at the back end, though I suppose it's possible if they are also a producer. It's not a per viewing royalty, like a per book sold royalty, for most authors if I understand what you're asking.

Also, most authors have little to no say in what happens to their novel once the rights are sold. A few have script approval written into contracts, but there are often opt outs for the producers that give them the right to override the author even if they do have approval rights. Heck, publishers often have those override privileges, too.
