you'd have to be more specific. the reasons would vary widely depending on who you're talking about. some would be down to bad choices and being in too many flops, some could be because nobody wants to work with them (talent to attitude ratio being too lopsided). some just lose the bug after awhile and want to fade quietly and be "normal"
The answer is simple, Joe: the long green. It's a hard fact of the industry that, when actors (even legendary ones) reach their twilight years, they tend to rest on their laurels.Robert DeNiro
He can still be great when he wants to be (Being Flynn) but the choices he has been making for movies the past few years are awful. I know that sometimes a script looks good on the page but sucks when you film it but how could he have ever thought Dirty Grandpa was a good idea? Plus, he's not that good at comedy and he seems to be doing a lot of it for some reason.

....yep, Gordon Shumway as Enemy Number One.....The drug problems and then getting arrested in that porn theater ruined his career.

That's the reason why Lawrence Olivier starred in stuff like Inchon and the Jazz Singer remake. It also may have to do with building up a substantial amount of money to leave to their family. I can understand that but it's sad to watch DeNiro in some of this dreck.
