You mean the one between the main character and the guy he’s trying to have put on the glasses? That was the worst part, it went on for a painfully long amount of time.

I’m also not one for movies that try to be super “woke”.

Yes, that fight. It's awesome.

This movie came out before "woke" was a term. It's a wry social commentary. Very much like the original Dawn of the Dead. Many horror movies have that element.

I know, I just think it’s dumb to analyze something as satirical as that term. By “woke” I mean movies that spend so much time shoving the message up and down your throat that they forget to write in an actually interesting plot.

Just re-watched that the other day. Still stands up. Especially if you went to HS in the 80s (as I did). It captures the cliched cliques and social attitudes perfectly. The reason Anthony Michael Hall's character is in detention foreshadows some later real world tragic events eerily.
...I know what you're saying....it just didn't resonate with me here in Hicksville....

I'm with you, Frank. We went to see it in IMAX and, while the visuals were lovely, I found the plot derivative and cliched. I'd love to visit the area at Walt Disney World, though. The ride is quite nice from video I've seen. Better than the movie. ;)

I'm with you there. Avatar I saw because it was released during the year that 3D became available in our local cinemas. I watched the 3D version, enjoyed the graphics, left the cinema and never thought about this film again. I can't believe James Cameron is developing sequels to this. 3D isn't really a "thing" anymore, and people realise now that put apart from the special effects, this is a really just a cliche-fest.

I didn't knew what to expect from this Movie, i just heared about the amazing Visuals and yes, the visuals are awesome....but that's it.

The Story, Plot..."We have to occupy this Planet because we need their resources"...Wow...that's new Folks *yawn*

Watch Star Trek Insurrection instead.

I watched the 2011 version of The Thing recently, having kind of avoided it due to being such a fan of the 1982 version. I wasn't expecting much, in fact I was sceptical and almost not wanting to enjoy it going in, but it stands up and ties in surprisingly well.
I've also seen the 50s one; it wasn't bad despite the 'man in a rubber costume' alien design and I was rather taken by the female lead :)a11:), but...nope, for me Carpenter's 1982 version it is.

As for They Live...it's a great film. Well, not great-great, but you know...
My other half doesn't care for it all, though. Still, it's not her fault; she's just wrong. ;)

I saw the old one once. It's good. I refuse to see the 2011 remake. Not after seeing Carpenter's version. One of the best horror movies EVER!
Not missing much on the 2011 remake Tery. I went to the theater to see it. Carpenter's version is just about my favorite horror movie of all time. The remake was very disappointing. Special effects were pretty cool, but they really whiffed on the paranoia factor which is what drove the Carpenter version so well.

Thanks. I knew it was a good call ;)

I never could get into Moulin Rouge. I saw the first scene and turned it off. Some of my friends really liked it.
I don't like Ocean's 11 and its related movies. That whole criminal thing just seems wrong to me.
I know I watch Sons of Anarchy, but they're bikers who just happen to deal guns. They don't rob banks or casinos.
