If it had been anybody else saying it, no one would have cared. But since the King said it, his words are the cause of a major scandal. Not only that. It makes him feel obligated to apologize.
Which he graciously does. You keep truckin, Mr. King. The fans are behind you all the way.

not for nothing but.... if they want to shake their fists and bitch at someone, why not try Woody Allen?
Exactly spot on!!! while I don't really get what Steve was trying to insinuate (that Dylan's piece had a bitchy flair to it?? Mia's recent words about him?) I myself have been disgusted by hollywood's
embracing of Allen, for a long time. This whole guilty until proven innocent thing, I'm sorry, just no. The man married and went on to have children with his own stepdaughter. I was particularly touched when dylan asked female stars who have worked and public ally celebrated him if they had forgotten about her (Diane Keaton). How can they as women and mothers work with this man? I have similar feelings about Johnny depp too, love him as an actor but don't like the fact that he worked with roman Polanski. As a parent, how can you work let alone be in the se room with a child molester? These are just my personal opinions, ones which I feel strongly about. What bothers me is that these men have gotten away with their crimes and are celebrated in spite of them. So instead of jumping all over Steve's tweet, why aren't people getting enraged over what dylan actually said? Boycott woody Allen's films and shame on the academy for nominating (and if he wins, oh boy) his work. It speaks volumes to how our society feels about abuse victims in the long run.

I could not get past the fact that Allen moved out with his foster daughter. How could his feelings change from that of a parent to that of a lover? I think the public has a tendency to not believe artistic, brilliant people could do such horrible things like molest children. Brilliant people can be monsters too.

I think the first time I was outwardly skeeved by Allen's behavior was when I saw him feeling up and kissing Mariel Hemingway in Manhattan. They started filming while she was just 16 years. He couldn't have gotten an older actress for the role?? How convenient that he gets to feel up a child and claim it's just 'acting'.

What's even creepier is if you watch his 1980 movie "Stardust Memories", where the character of Woody Allen's ex-wife accuses him of flirting with her 14-year old cousin, all the while in front of a wall covered with huge newspaper headlines about a celebrity incest scandal. Kinda makes you wonder if life imitated art after the fact?

More here about stuff in his early movies that seems creepier after the fact...

Some can take the smallest thing and turn it into something it is not. Stephen gave a great apology and explanation, yet people still found something wrong in that. It is sad.

I do hope Stephen does continue to use twitter though....his tweets have been great! :smile-new:

Frankly, I've never been impressed with Woody Allen's movies anyway. I really don't think they are all that great. He is a mediocre actor at best. His stories are esoteric and made for snobs, IMO.The neurotic New York Jew bit is old.
I saw a couple of his movies long time ago. The second one was just to give it one more try, since people kept telling me how great they were. I know people call him a genius, and maybe he is, I just get absolutely nothing from his movies.

According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, it means: : malicious, spiteful, or overbearing behavior; also : an instance of such behavior

In a colloquial sense, it can also mean a crappy, confusing, vaguely menacing or generally wrong situation (many of the people I know would be cruder and say 'f**kery'). This is the sense in which I took Mr. King's tweet (I could be wrong--I certainly can't speak for him), based upon how it's used by friends of mine from Mass.--it's a regional thing. The problem with using a word that's generally unfamiliar is that people read into it meaning and intent that isn't there.

As far as the situation he was commenting on, I have no opinion. I don't like Mr. Allen's movies, and I don't much pay attention to gossip.

Sorry I didn't reply in a timely manner--sick LilMan means not much internet time for me :)

Damn, I just read the remarks on the main site in relation to King's apology...seems like he can't win no matter what he does. One person is even suggesting he should donate money to a charity for sexual abuse victims, in lieu of an apology. I'm astounded at the over-reaction. Thank God these people don't seem to have made their way to the message board...yet!!

Not to put too fine a point on it, but if the discussion is shifting to Woody Allen's movies or the specifics of the Allen/Farrow litigation... that probably should become its own thread. I'm not a Moderator, nor implying that. I'm just pointing out the obvious. It seems like we have plumbed the depths of Mr. King's flack on twitter and are starting to branch out into all sorts of other things. If we have put to bed the actual topic, tis time we moved on. :D

Just went the main site after reading your comment.... This all tweeter thing is a painful and sorry mess ( to paraphrase sk's apology ) . Everyone is having a go.They jump at his throat, all convinced they know exactly what he meant by that tweet. I wonder if they're for real. Getting that angry about a clumsy tweet? Seriously?
