Last night, I received a phone call telling me that my dear friend, LaVerne Franklin had been killed while mowing her lawn. Somehow, the lawnmower turned over on her and just like that, she was gone.
I've known LaVerne since I was 15 years old. She was my cosmetology teacher, she helped me get my first job, and later on she helped me get a job administering exams for the state licensing board. She is the reason that I am able to speak in public.
Mostly, LaVerne was my dear friend. I will miss her.

Thanks for the kind thoughts and prayers, Y'all.
The funeral director called work today and said that LaVerne's family requested that I style her hair. He explained that her daughter told him how close Verne and I were, and that they would understand if I couldn't handle it. There is no way I would refuse to style her hair....it is the last thing I will ever be able to do for her.
I've done hair for funerals before, but this will be the first time for someone I love. If y'all would throw some positive energy my way on Friday morning, I'd really appreciate it. ♥

Oh sweetie... absolutely. It is a privilege to be able to do something physically for the last time for a loved one. My thoughts are with you, girl. xox
