My "On Writing" exercise.

Well, that wasn't really my intention. My intention was to follow the instructions in the book. I don't even have anything to get feedback on but a 5-page short story written on the direction of "On Writing" and maybe a few dozen one-line ideas. I suppose in some sort of romantic way I felt that if I did this step, it would naturally lead to the next. So back to the studying it is. Maybe I will write more to get feedback on once I read the style guides. If there was anything I learned while writing this exercise it is that I do NOT know how to structure paragraphs and dialog in a piece of fiction. I also reaffirmed something I already knew, I seem to write effortlessly. I don't know if this is the norm but I literally have a burning desire to write. I have been in sales for the past 10 years and I can't shake the feeling that I need to write. To create. Is this how you guys feel?

I understand your frustration and where you're coming from. You had a goal in mind and it didn't pan out. No need to worry though, because from what I've seen, this community is very accepting and willing to help/support any way they can.

I'd like to give a shout out to the Moderator on this thread, Ms. Mod, for the way she replied to you. Her approach was both positive and supportive. I do hope that you will stay here a while and discover the passion of reading, writing and discussing authors and their books.

A big part of being a writer is being a reader. I am fortunate enough to have been accepted into Grad school and am pursuing a Master's of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. I would be thrilled to talk to you more about Stephen King's On Writing, as I am currently reading it for my program. One of the most important focuses so far is the notion that this text becomes a mentor text and is to be referenced time and again throughout my journey in writing. Lastly, I just want to add that professional courses in writing can make the world of difference in building confidence and skill for the craft of writing. If you can swing it, I strongly recommend enrolling in a class or two if you haven't already.

Anyway, please don't hesitate to reach out to me on writing - I love talking about writing, sharing ideas, and I believe that I have a lot of positive support to give to anyone willing to accept it. I'm here, heck, we're all here.
