How did the spiders enter this thread? Spiders are not bugs, they are arachneaids, not an insect at all. Sorry, just me being pedantic again, seems i have a pedantic thursday or something. It is some sort of sickness anyway. I love spiders by the way, not as much as snakes and lizards but still. Ants, and flies i don't like. But butterflies are so beautiful.....
Please continue

You always make me "think" which is a good thing. Using the brain at my age! I had to look for the definition of "bug". It really surprised me, as I thought along the lines as you did Kurben . Spider not a bug. Oh well----

Definition of bug
  1. 1a : an insect or other creeping or crawling invertebrate (as a spider or centipede)b : any of several insects (as the bedbug or cockroach) commonly considered obnoxiousc : any of an order (Hemiptera and especially its suborder Heteroptera) of insects that have sucking mouthparts, forewings thickened at the base, and incomplete metamorphosis and are often economic pests —called also true bug

  2. 2: an unexpected defect, fault, flaw, or imperfection <the software was full of bugs>

  3. 3a : a germ or microorganism especially when causing diseaseb : an unspecified or nonspecific sickness usually presumed due to a bug

  4. 4: a sudden enthusiasm

  5. 5: enthusiast <a camera bug>

  6. 6: a prominent person

  7. 7: a crazy person

  8. 8: a concealed listening device

  9. 9[from its designation by an asterisk on race programs]: a weight allowance given apprentice jockeys

Do you think that it is because butterflies are so beautiful that they never have been the bad guys in horror or SF books and movies? (to my knowledge at least) Spiders and ants and other insects often are bad guys but not butterflies. Wonder why?

What do you know. I always thought bug was a synonym for insect (when it comes to animals at least). Obviously i was wrong. You learn something everyday here. Isnt it great? Thanks Spidey!
