I've been reading Stephen King since he first started writing. Yes, I'm old. I'm here because I wanted to ask a question. Do you know if he was inspired to write The Colorado Kid by the case of the Sommerton Man in Australia?

Welcome to the site.
I'm really not sure, sorry. (There is no "Inspiration" section for this book in our library.) Maybe Ms. Mod will know?

This is really intriguing, isn't it? Thanks for the information. The Sommerton Man was found in 1948 leaned up against a seawall in Sommerton, Australia with the tags cut out of his clothing. In his pockets were a used bus ticket, an unused rail ticket from the city to Henley Beach, a narrow aluminium American comb, a half-empty packet of Juicy Fruit chewing gum, an Army Club cigarette packet containing Kensitas cigarettes,a quarter-full box of Bryant & May matches and a piece of the last page of Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. It read Tamud Shud, "It is finished". His wallet was gone and they determined he was wearing American style clothing. They could find no cause of death but it is believed he was poisoned.
The man has recently been identified, it is believed. The story is here: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/south-australia/new-twist-in-somerton-man-mystery-as-fresh-claims-emerge/story-fni6uo1m-1226766905157
It is so similar, it makes me think he may have seen it and used it as inspiration.
No, it was a different news story that inspired it but I like the one you posted better. Working from home today so don't have access to some of my files to give you more details.I've been reading Stephen King since he first started writing. Yes, I'm old. GG, where did you get that KatieJo is a guy? Here's her entire first post:...first, with a user name like that-yer a guy?....hmmmm, I must be getting old....anyway, interesting parallel-certainly there are "common" elements...I've never read where that was an inspiration, but as Flake said, Marsha may know more...
