I'm 50 and new to writing. I wanted to learn about the craft of writing and could only find these dictionary sized text books on the subject that bored the crap out of me, until I found your book. That led me to The Elements of Style. I've read them both and decided to go through some of my stories I had written before my crash course and to my surprise I sucked as a writer. I have some tools to work with now and feel confident.
I have seen, and enjoyed, a lot of the movies your books inspired but I never read much of your work. Reading "On Writing A Memoir of the Craft" has piqued my curiosity and now I want to read all your books. There's a lot. I like non-fiction books and when I enjoy a non-fiction book, like On Writing, I want to know everything about the subject. I am fascinated with inside stories you gave in the book about "Carrie" and "Cujo." I wish I would have found it 17 years ago when it was published. Thank you for a no nonsense book on the craft of writing.
I liked that you came up with the name Richard Bachman as a pen name because "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" was playing in the background. I'm from Winnipeg, where the band was formed, so I thought my name on here should be Turner Overdrive of course.
It took me a half hour to write this and I've re-read it about 30 times. It's the best I can do. I think I have problems.
