Does anyone else miss the older style paperback books? What I mean is, it seems that many of the new ones have very nice, smooth pages. It's not that I don't like these, but there is just something about a page in a book that is a bit off-color and porous. Maybe its character or something? Or maybe I'm just weird... And also the ink in the older ones seems thicker. I don't know, this is just something that crossed my mind earlier in the day.

I completely understand, it is part of the reason I am just as happy to buy a used old paperback as I am to have shiny good looking hardbacks. I also like the musky smell of an older book. I have a few books in my SK collection from the 80's and 90's. Here is a close up of my IT paperback (1990 I think).

I especially like the price up in the top-right corner, $ .35 (how does one make a "cents" sign?)...plus some of those one-liners are a real hoot...a torrid novel by Harry Crews...but that one, a Dell paperback says 95-cents...or, A Bantam Seventy-five (.75 cents) Steinbeck's The Winter of Our Discontent. Have some Charles Willeford paperbacks...and some on kindle and the kindle version of some of his stories reproduce the old paperback covers...from memory, the she devil from Dallas would get her revenge! Heh! Hoo-rah! Brings me back to second grade, remember those days, ordering books from that newsprint catalog...Charlie the Tramp...so on so forth...and Ray Zerbst, over in the third row said, I just love the smell of new books in the morning.

I also miss the smell of the purple ink that the teachers gave out for tests. Everyone sniffed it.

I still need to find a copy of "Carrie" to add to my collection - that is one book I am missing - are they few and far between? (Speaking of old books). I did not even notice until my son pointed it out to me. The movie was on TV recently and he went looking for the book.
