So, there was an interesting documentary on about the Women's Soccer Team from the US, and the interesting thing about it was that they actually get more traction than the men's team, which usually never happens in any sport. And I also found it surprising, because the US does actually have a decent men's team so you would suspect that not to be the case. Anyone from North America got any idea why this might be?
Soccer is the world’s most popular sport. The US likes dominating every sport.. it's just the way we are. The national men’s team is pretty ordinary but the women’s national team is extraordinary. I’d say there’s a lot of pride in the women’s soccer team because it dominates a world sport. And it doesn’t hurt that they’re all pretty hot.

The women's team has won 4 world cup titles whereas the men's team has won none. Additionally they've won 4 Olympic gold medals and 8 CONCACAF Gold Cups. When it comes to sports, winners create fans even from those who wouldn't normally bother following a team.

Well the thing about the US mens team is that, in the fifa world ranking, US are twentieth I believe, and for a country that doesn't even have soccer as the most popular sport, they do remarkably well.

Well that makes sense. But the US should definitely have pride for their men's team also, qualifying for World Cup's has never been as difficult as it has been recently, just so you know, the last time Scotland was at a major tournament was in 1998, and we are a country who loves football and it is by far the national sport, USA, bar the last World Cup, has been consistently good at getting to major tournaments, and I remember back in the day they even beat England.

What get's me about NFL is that mos tof the game is played with hands, not feet ...
See, I am in no way a sports geek, but I do wonder why we call Football Soccer and our weird pigskin ball game Football

there’s an interesting story about why Americans don’t use the imperial measuring system, so I wonder if there’s an interesting reason behind that

Fans are fickle and soccer (not sure the US will ever be able to identify it as football) has had a hard time capturing the interest of Americans the way its other sports have. If the women's team had not been as successful as it has been, it wouldn't be getting the attention it has. As long as the men's team is overshadowed by the successes of the women's team, they'll have to learn what it's like to play second fiddle--you know, the way most women's teams in all sports are treated.
