Oprah is slimy unless you cook it right.
It's so good that I eat it like popcorn by itself. Like Skimom said, light and crispy, not burned. FGT are delicious, too, if you can stand the sharp, bitter green taste.Never had it, but love fried pickles and also pickled okra. Think I would be a fan!
...welllll, if you've never had your okra pickled you don't know how much fun that can be!.....I like fried okra, but have never had pickled.
....with meatloaf, beans AND taters!!!...*swoon*View attachment 16246 View attachment 16247
Here's some that I made a month ago. I think I'm just starving. All because NN brought up corn.
That's some good eats right there son!....with meatloaf, beans AND taters!!!...*swoon*
What kind of dipping sauces are most common for fried okra? I'm all about the condiments!!It's so good that I eat it like popcorn by itself. Like Skimom said, light and crispy, not burned. FGT are delicious, too, if you can stand the sharp, bitter green taste.
I love putting spicy pickled okra, garlic stuffed olives and jalapeño baby dill pickles in an ice cold glass of tomato juice. Yum!!I like fried okra, but have never had pickled.
I've never heard of a dipping sauce. I like them salted, that's it. Don't want to overpower the natural taste. I think some people in different regions add vinegar, or a roumelade (sp?). The mayo based condiment on Po Boys. Not sure. What kind of dipping sauces are most common for fried okra? I'm all about the condiments!!
I was thinking of them as an appetizer, but after seeing your pic, fried okra looks like it's more of a side dish.I've never heard of a dipping sauce. I like them salted, that's it. Yes, you're right. It can be both. Mostly the fancy dining establishments here in Birmingham that put it on the menu. Frank Stitt's place (friend to the late Pat Conroy) for example. Otherwise, a bunch of meat and three joints.I was thinking of them as an appetizer, but after seeing your pic, fried okra looks like it's more of a side dish.
