If you dig Wrightson werewolves, check out Swamp Thing (original series) #4, 1973. Even creepier, this w.wolf.

Another guy that did great w.wolves, Jack Davis (Mad Magazine, Tales From The Crypt, about a million TV Guide covers).

My favorite movie werewolf? Oliver Reed.

Gotta love Cycle. Hell, love Silver Bullet. A movie that mixes werewolves AND Gary Busey? I'll bring the damn popcorn.

Anyone remember an old TV series called Darkroom? If I recall correctly -- and I may be messing this up -- the first episode was about teens concerned about a vampire. But they turned out to be wrong. The man they thought was a vampire wasn't a vampire...he was a...(you know).

YES! That was a great show, kinda early-eighties version of Twilight Zone. They did one about a kid's toy soldiers coming to life and killing the kid's dad. I was just a wee lad, about five or six, and that show used to scare the crap out of me.

Strieber's book is called The Wolfen here in the States. It was his first novel. Robert McCammon (I know you just started reading him, Kurben) has a great one called The Wolf's Hour.

The Wolfen film and book are great, they did drop the "the" from the film but its great regardless. What makes it great is that Strieber uses a lot of the flaws in society in the novel. For example, the wolfen, who are described by Strieber as an intelligent species that is higher up the food chain than humans but descended from wolves. However, its a misconception that it is a werewolf story, Strieber has said they've descended from wolves or something but they are just the wolfen and extremely intelligent. That intelligence is why they prey on the homeless, they know society doesn't care about the homeless so they can prey on the homeless while keeping their existence hidden. However, they make one mistake, they discover that some rich butthead is going to destroy the decayed part of the city they're in and in order to avoid being discovered and lose their home, they target him. This brings in the detectives who they then fear will discover they exist and that's where the story begins and the game of who will come out on top starts. The native americans in the story also take some shots at how the "white man" has no respect for other species and needs to realize they're not on top of the food chain.

All in all its just an outstanding story and the film won some awards. However, the book, they did a few printings of it but stopped reprinting it in 1988 I think and while used copies go for cheap, they're usually beat to hell. Nearly new copies go for around 40-60 but one has to trust the seller is being honest. I want a cherry copy but I'm afraid of shelling out 60 and getting a beat up book. But one day I'll get a nice copy and be very, very happy.
