....I have had the privilege and honor of being able to spin many a Bowie tune over my broadcast career, as well as listen to vinyl, 8-track, cassette and CD versions of his music-as well as on other stations when I wasn't working.....in my opinion, his singing voice was rather underwhelming-but MAN, what he could do with it!....from a purr to a roar in no time and effortlessly.....fans and critics alike, talk of people who are "unique" or "one of a kind"-but Ziggy the Thin White Duke OWNED it....there will never be another set of chords quite like his, and no-one has ever replicated his style-I think that's what helps him stand out amongst other music giants.....but for all his well-loved hits, I have to step aside and say it was his piece with Bing Crosby that truly cemented my love for the man...what a duet, and what a loss our hearts have to absorb.....that "hell of a band" just got one hell of a vocalist and performer......

Take a listen to the Lou Reed song Satellite Of Love. Listen closely to the background vocals especially towards the end of the song. That is Bowie doing the background vocals and it's stunning. I was watching Lou on a VH-1 show, The Making of Transformer and he was at the board and he isolated David's background vocals so you could hear it well. After I saw that show, every time I hear that song, I just listen to the background vocals.

Music trivia- a very young Luther Vandross did background vocals on Bowie's 'Fame'.

And his birthday was 3 days ago. Make fun of me if you want, but I seriously believe some sort of pull happens around our birthdays. I know so many people who have passed within a couple weeks of their birthday either way. Both my mom and my dad died exactly a week before their birthdays. As I approach my birthdays as I get older, I do so with trepidation and ask Mr. Reaper to pass me by.

I think this does often happen too... (Uncle Peter died on his birthday.)

People definitely feel stress around certain days, holidays, anniversaries, etc, and we all have seen stories of couples dying within moments or a day of each other, that extra little bit of stress must be enough for the tipping point..but not you DJ! have another cupcake and tea,and relax..

Oh God, it's nearly your birthday! Don't you stress about this... xox (I've just realised that Terence died on your (NZ) birthday.)
