IT isn't No.1 ? HERESY !!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd swap the top 2 around, and put Carrie, Cujo and Pet Sematary on the list.

By the way, this is why I don't like the name of the Volkswagon Passat. It just sounds wrong....
...oh pith off Chicken Little!....Don't be so pithy.....
Don't get me wrong, I LOOOOOVE 'Salem's Lot. It was in my top ten for years, until I reread it earlier this year. I dunno, it just left a weird taste in my mouth. Maybe I'll try reading it again soon. Helluva story, though.Gotta disagree on that one. Small towns in the Northeast are not much different now than they were when the novel was written. Only thing missing are cell phones and the internet.
'Salems Lot is a classic example of the modern American Horror novel.

Go and read it now. Definitely a top ten story. Hardly recall... You have a lot of reremembering to do and you gonna enjoy every second of it.Like a mouth full of blood? I know there were vampires in there, but it has been that many years since I read it that I can hardly recall.
I'll path on the pithiness, thank yo very much........oh pith off Chicken Little!....
I feel the same way. I've noticed my list of favorites tends to change depending on how I feel. There's been a lot of stress in my life the last few months, so I can't really handle a Pet Sematary or Cujo right now. Luckily there's always something like 11/22/63, Joyland, The Dead Zone, etc. to read instead.I love the fact that SK touches people's emotions in very different ways. Some like horror, some like calmer books like shawshank. The versatility of SK is what impresses me so much.
Off-topic Flake... (AGAIN!!!)I feel the same way. I've noticed my list of favorites tends to change depending on how I feel. ...what is this "on-topic" of which you type?....Nice to see you staying on topic as always GNT.
I think the top 4 was pretty much going to be a given (even if I disagree with it), I knew what 4 books would head the list before I started reading it, Misery at 5 threw me a bit though.
I'll try a top ten, but please bare in mind the high profile books I still haven't read include Salems Lot, Under The Dome, Green Mile (although I have seen the film, and I am led to believe it is a very close adaptation), plus a few others people would consider great.
My top 3 are uncontested, and the easiest choices I will have to make.
01. IT
02. 11/22/63
03. The Stand
04. Drawing Of The Three
05. Joyland
06. The Langoliers
07. Wizard & Glass
08. Wolves Of The Calla
09. Dr. Sleep
10. Pet Semetary

Couldn't care less--lol. This is and always will be one of my favorites We had a visiting priest yesterday that looked just like my mind picture of Fr. Callahan, so I had to run home and read it again.I wanted to include 'Salem's Lot in my list but it feels so dated in ways his other novels don't.
