The Moving Finger--a short that never fails to freak me the frack out.
Night Flier--another short that gets to me, and the airplane scene...yikes.
Library Policeman--a great little freak out from beginning to end. Ardelia Lortz in general is just wrong. And the whole story feels like you're watching someone elses' fever dreams. It's a weird little tale.
Besides the many short stories that have the ability to scare the bejeezus out of me, there's also:
Salem's Lot--I grew up in a small town very similar to the Lot, and the first time I read the book I was just a kid. I slept with my Bible under my pillow for a month!
Duma Key--I find this to be an incredible read, and it is in fact one of my top 5 most favorite SK novels. But the first time I read it, it gave me a serious case of the heebee jeebies.
IT--there's not necessarily a lot of scary scenes in this book for me, but there's a lot of really disturbing ones. Especially when it comes to Hockstetter. He made my skin crawl way worse than Pennywise! But, like Duma Key, this book is in my top 5...
I could go on, but I'll stop now.
