I realized that and edited the post accordingly.

Keep telling yourself... stay away from the pointy stick, stay away from the pointy stick, stay away from... :)
Why thank you so much......but won't you be lost without your reference books? :p

I come from a long line of them. At least I don't feel the need to kill one if I see it like my mother does. She can't rest until she knows it's dead if she sees one in her yard. The argument about how they keep down the slug and rodent population doesn't impress her or sway her opinion, unfortunately. I might change my mind once I'm doing my annual snowbird migration to AZ if I come across any rattlesnakes. Have only seen one in my neighborhood so far and that was a dead one that one of the residents had run over--several times--with his SUV.

My father-in-law has a terrible fear of snakes, also. One time he saw a snake in our yard and plowed me over running away from it. I fell over the trailer and hit my head on the boat. My wife saw it happen and almost died laughing. It remains a funny and painful family story to this day.

One time my wife found a very large snake in the front of the house. She thought it might be poisonous and called the police. The officer that showed up had a terrible fear of snakes. As soon as he saw it near the shrubs he took out his sidearm and shot it. Told her she would have to deal with it as he wasn’t going near the damn thing... alive or dead.

And shouldn't you be fixing Steve's 'slithering' comment on his holiday message to us? ;)

Not in my pay grade. Jordan is working on it, though. :smile2:

Reminds me of another cop vs wildlife story. A friend of mine went to a bank ATM on a weekend when the bank was closed and there was an alligator hanging out in the parking lot of the bank. Someone had already called the police before my friend got there and he said while he was there, a cop pulled up and got out of his car. It was the cop's job to hang out in the parking lot until the gator removal guy got there. My friend said that the cop was so freaked out that he drew his gun although the gator was just being still in the parking lot. Luckily for the gator, the removal guy showed up before the cop freaked out any more and shot it.

I told this on the old MB--- Science was a big part of learning for my students, even when I taught at a PreK level. The room had a science display table which consisted of preserved dead snakes, and a variety of the "fake " ones intermixed. One night an alarm went off in the building and the local enforcement came to investigate. The lights were not working and one of the officers, flashlight in hand, proceeded to search each room for intruders. I think people heard the screams in the next county as his flashlight beamed upon the snake display. Thankfully there was no gun fire, but the other officers were beyond containment with laughter.
