I am a newer member. I joined because I wanted to learn more about his works that I didn't read in his books or interviews. That is exactly what I found. I am not only learning about his works more in-depth, but also I am part of a community who understands. Everyone here gets it. They understand the language of King. I am just beginning my journey of Dark Towers ( I am late to the game on that one, I know) and it's great to go back to the threads and discuss the books. It's awesome that I have heard of so many little tidbits from fans that I wouldn't have heard on places such as his Facebook page. We just don't read the books, but we purchase a variety of things. So I got to find out about things I wouldn't think of to get. How cool is it that Bev Vincent, someone that is well-verse in King posts on here. You can learn a lot on this site if you try.
While there is threads not related to King, if we all only thought about King 24-7, I don't think he would be too comfortable with that. He has already said a bunch of times that he is uncomfortable with that kind of attention. So not only do we talk about King, we also, let off a little steam, wish other people well, get to know the members, Be silly. Isn't that part of life anyway? I am having fun and I am glad I am here!

Exactly! Ms. Mod is awesome! She shared the recent Europe trip with us even. She didn't have to do that. Or answer our (or maybe just mine) silly questions.

Which I realize I haven't finished yet :wink2: --it was more hectic in Germany than Paris and then once I got back was trying to shift gears, fight jet-lag, and enjoy the holiday. Very glad to answer your questions when I have an answer. :)

Yeah, okay, so my wife gives me about three Stephen King stories for Christmas...ought-six it was. Ought-six. One of them was Hearts in Atlantis, another Bag of Bones...and t'other was From A Buick 8. Anyway...she gives me all manner of grief (w/love, of course) that I read them too quick. You already finished that! Well...I can read it again, too. :) So I'm reading these King stories, right? And in either Bones or Hearts, King has this afterword...something about letting him know what I think. Thought that was pretty cool and so that's what I did...set out to find a way to thank the man for the stories I've enjoyed. So...I found this message board. No, not in ought-six. Ought-seven it was. January. January of ought-seven.

Tara, there was a time as a member here when I became discouraged that there wasn't enough talk about the stories...so I know where you're coming from. Believe me you. I'm no scholar, but I do enjoy talking stories. Had this professor this once...asked him what he thought about me and graduate school. Professor Levin smiled kindly...and he was honest with me and said no. Had this other friend, Ray by name. Ramon Diaz. He said, Walter, if digging a ditch makes you happy, dig it. So I pound nails. Hadn't quite mastered the shovel when I decided to wear an apron for a living.

Where was I?

Ummmm. I dunno. I'd say stick around and read posts...a few offered links to old threads...is that in this thread? Or was that some other thread? Ray told me something else, too...said to talk to everyone...cause you don't know who's going to help you out along the way. That's my advice to you. Talk to everybody. Start a thread or two about what's on your mind after you exhaust this business and we'll see where that take us. :)

Because we're all friends who happen to have the common thread which is Stephen King and his work? And friends talk and share experiences.... all sorts of them. We're not being ignorant.... we're having a great time and enjoying each others company.

and as a King Fan for over 35 years.... i think he digs the fact that we're doing just that. You know, there's also plenty of other places where you can sully boards with rudeness.

I might be way off base here, but I think this message board is a fairly good representation of Stephen King and his many endeavors. He doesn’t limit himself only to his writing. He is often publicly open and expresses (in written form, in interviews and in speeches) his likes and dislikes, his trials and tribulations, his love of baseball, movies, worthy causes, music and much more. And he isn’t afraid to tackle socially hot topics such as activism, taxes, and even his wretched politics. Why shouldn’t he allow the same from fans of his works?

The message board just seems to be another extension of his many ventures. A work in progress story with an interactive flowchart, where the reader can immerse themselves and contribute to the subplots that interest them. The message board has an extensive cast of characters, major and minor, good and evil, serious and goofballs. It's got long-time members, hit-and-runners, some only remembered in hearts and minds, and some apparently on a walkabout of sorts at the current time. The entire message board is a good read all in all and a place that definitely sparks interest and emotions. Just like a good book!

Unfortunately many new members and casual readers don’t yet realize this message board is new and there was an old message board chocked full of discussions and opinions geared primarily to his written works, and adaptations made from them.

This message board is run and controlled pretty well by the benevolent overlord Ms. Mod and her "mini onions." It’s a place to give fans the opportunity to see the inner working of the Stephen King universe that isn’t available anywhere else, and a place to openly express their opinions -- on just about everything. It really does provide a pleasant atmosphere where fans can become part of the Stephen King story, or something.

PERFECT!

So is it okay to post without mentioning the guy that pays the bills for us to have this playground?
Okay then....
Tara, what if this is a big social experiment that Sai King uses to gain ideas for his books. I do believe I have seen things used on this board that were later used in books. Could be a coinky-dink or could be a great author utiliziing his resources to become a better writer. Getting down to the common mans level and seeing how we interact and what is on our minds.
I know this to be true. Years and years ago, I sent a piece of artwork I made to Marsha of the Dominique nique nique singing nun done in Macaroni. It was super cool. And, it was interactive. You pressed a button on the portrait and the music of that song played. Yes, this was a joke. It goes clear back to when steve was auctioning off a part in one of his books. I offered a macaroni portrait as my bid. I know that Steve pushed the button on this Dana Jean original.

In Duma Key, I can't remember what page (maybe Marsha can do a "macaroni art" word scan and find the page) but in Duma Key, Steve talks about Macaroni art. I completely 100% know that my Macaroni Nun was the inspiration for that entry into the Stephen King canon.

Lol. Love the responses. You guts believe the author reads this ****? Haha, god, I split a gut reading those responees. Keep on truckin' on 'fans'. I weep for your simple souls, your cheesie riddles 3 Wolf Moon t-shirts and dating profiles using Chatum Tanning or Megan Fox photo's as your own. Haha, thank you all for verifying my theory. Ignorance Is bliss, isn't it? You do realize you are all fodder for the rest of us?!
I know Ms. Mod DFTT but...

I just love cats :distrust: O ya - I just found out who Megan Fox is, only cuz she is a model for a new perfume by Avon (otherwise I would not have known who she was)
