My girls played "What does the fox say" just because they knew it made my ears bleed.

One song I can't listen to anymore is by one of my favourite bands. 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. Burn it, smash it, I don't care, just don't make me listen to it again.
'Come As You Are' was a better song anyway.
Weird Al's parody song is so good that anytime I hear Nirvana's version I find myself substituting the Weird Al lyrics.
Yep. Though being fair, the early 80s were pretty much wall-to-wall crap over here, so a lot of people seized on anything that seemed 'fun'.
Agreed! Add rap to that also.

Though songs by Mr Blobby and Bob the Builder have also made number 1 since then (iirc keeping Eminem's 'Stan' off top spot in the latter case), so...

I don't even know who performs this song but I'm sick of it - I hear it way too often and once you've heard it, it stays with you the rest of the day
C'mon Eileen
Harden my heart.
Couldn't STAND this song at the time. Still can't.
Aerosmith's Come Together cover. This is one of my guilty pleasures. That, and early Madonna.
I'll throw in two awful covers. No, three. Metallica's redo of Bog Seger's "Turn the Page," and Kenny Rogers' redo of Seger's "We've Got Tonight." Both of them took an earthy, heartful, growly theme and turned it into a screechfest (Metallica) or a vanilla croon (Rogers). The third one is Faith Hill's redo of Janis Joplin's "Heartbreaker." My kids love all kinds of music, including rap and country (go figure), and they couldn't stand that lilty version of a carnal, raw classic. They thought it was outright sacrilege.
The early 80s weren't bad at all for music. I kind of liked some of the synthesiser-based pop of that time. Depeche Mode, Human League, Gary Numan and David Bowie knocked out some good stuff during the early 80s. We had The Thompson Twins and Howard Jones as well. U2 were still a decent band then... and where would we have been without Dexy's and Come On Eileen?!
Aw nah, I like Metallica's cover of Turn the Page. (I like them both, actually)This is one of my guilty pleasures. That, and early Madonna.

...did you mean Faith's version of "Piece of My Heart"?....and regardless she looked good doing the opening for Sunday Night Football...This is one of my guilty pleasures. That, and early Madonna.

...you and I agree, I felt it was sacrilege that she tried to cover JJ's original....she just doesn't have that whiskey smooth, cigarette rough wail of pain voice...Apparently, when I first wrote that post, I had both song titles wrong. The Seger one bothered me, so I looked it up and corrected it. But the other one didn't bother me, so I didn't. Amd I was wrong. Yes, sir, I meant "Piece of My Heart."
I'm sure Ms. Hill looks great, is a wonderful entertainer, wife, and mother. There are undoubtedly fan clubs and churches built in veneration of her (and Bobby Sheman)(and Neal Diamond), and rightly so. But that song, that version? Ummmm..........
