So, in Marky Ramones book he discusses The Ramones/Stephen King connection. The story goes that Stephen and The Ramones met at a restaurant and had dinner together, they then decided to head back to Stephen's house. Once at the house, Stephen hands Dee Dee Ramone a copy of Pet Semetary and tells them he would like them to do a song for the film (Dee Dee was The Ramones main songwriter), Dee Dee then headed up to Stephen's attic and wrote the song Pet Semetary, a great song by the way. Whenever Stephen is asked about this, he denies it. Says none of it ever happened. Stephen's version of events goes that he met with them at a restaurant and that was it. In Marky's book he discusses how he loved talking to Stephen about old sci-fi movies. Seems to be a pretty strange detail for Marky to mention if it never happenned. Does anyone have any idea what the truth is? Marsha maybe? Moderator

It might have happened before 1988 when I began working for him but it didn't happen after that that I am aware of. I do remember taking calls from Dee Dee Ramone for Stephen but the extent of that was just to take a message that I passed on to him as he wasn't in the office when the call came through. I don't remember Marky calling in but it's possible as I wasn't the only one answering the phones at the office.

Yes, I think it would have been in 88 or 87 as the film and Ramones album it was featured on came out in 89, it's just weird that Stephen denies they came to his house and wrote Pet Semetary while the other members of the band don't. Thanks for the help anyway, I guess it's destined to remain a mystery! But I'm more inclined to believe The Ramones as Marky and Dee Dee discuss this event near enough exactly the same in their books.

On the liner notes of the We're a Happy Family tribute album (which is very good) SK talks about having dinner with the Ramones. If they went to Stephen's house, you wonder what the Ramones were doing in Maine.

But I also recall something about the Ramones helping SK setting up a music festival. Can't remember where I read that though.

Here's more about the Pet Sematary song. I actually have a single cassette tape of that. Those were shortly sold here then, it's like a vinyl single, but on tape. It has only two songs just like most vinyl singles.

but I bet they smelled like week old socks and dirty balls.

They were accepted on general talkshows and the hosts sit close to them, so it can't be that bad.
I think it was their image, more than anything. Because they make raw music and dress in leather jackets people assume they must be bad behaved. But most lyrics are more funny than threatening.

I was teasing. I'm sure they were all lovely gentlemen.
