Just got Netflix. First order of business: Stranger Things. I just finished episode 2. I know a little about it since it's part of the cultural zeitgeist. But I'm clueless enough to be surprised. One thing that did strike me was how it feels like IT. The kids, the quarry, missing kids... just the whole vibe. And not just because the boy who plays Mike played Richie in It.

So, yeah. Liking it so far.

They did borrow a lot of things from Stranger Things but to be fair, Stranger Things borrowed a bit from Stand By Me and a LOT from Goonies. But that is how things work, everyone borrows from others. I mean we're past the point where anything can be totally original since so much has been done already. Stranger Things does it intentionally though to cash in on nostalgia and to pay homage to popular franchises of the past. I'd say they were paying homage to what they liked as kids but I believe the Duffer's were children of the 90's and not the 80's. Could be wrong.
