I think this story is a foreshadowing of The Tommyknockers. I haven't read it in years but I remember the Fornits living in the man's typewriter and the man going insane. Like the ship in Bobbi's woods that gave her preternatural abilities, the Fornits allow the writer to create beyond his normal capabilities. Does anyone remember the details?
The second reason it reminds me of The Tommyknockers is the humor within the otherwise horrific circumstances. Also, the story has a skeptic outsider who begins to see for himself what he at first thought was crazy.
