Nobody had to bleed to death. Since the advent of fire and metal, humans have been cauterizing wounds. No matter how serious the gunshot, those not killed outright had at least a CHANCE if they'd slapped hot iron on it. There was a fireplace, and it had pokers.
If Sam Jackson's character knew from the start that something was up with the guy in the barn, why not just kill him out there? Why let him return to the main building and hook back up with his buddies? That savvy character doesn't seem to be the type that would be bothered at all doing so. For that matter, he wouldn't have had a problem shooting the whole bunch of bad guys when he had the chance, then turning them over for their bounties (dead or alive). It doesn't add up that he'd stand around chatting them up when he had a chance to simply shoot them.
Still, all in all, worth watching, if you like western, bounty-hunter type movies.
