The Milkman?

Discussion in 'General Discussion & Questions' started by Israel Regardie, Mar 3, 2014.

  1. According to Wikipedia, the story "Morning Deliveries (Milkman No. 1)" from Skeleton Crew was:
(...) adapted from an unfinished novel called "The Milkman."
Any word on this unfinished book? Why was it abadoned, and is the unfinished MS obtainable?

I don't recall ever seeing the manuscript for The Milkman and hadn't realized it was intended to be a full-length novel but that was written before I began working for Stephen.

  3. I wonder where that info comes from. The only references given in said article are Douglas E. Winter's Stephen King: The Art of Darkness. and Tickle, On My Tonkey (which makes no sense and a google search gives static). The text is not mentioned in Skeleton Crew's afterword ("Notes")

Interesting. I've never heard such, but I'm not exactly "in the know." Wonder if its true?

There's no record of it in the UMaine archives. It may never had made it much farther than the excerpts that were published. My Pretty Pony was also supposed to be a novel, but there's nothing more than that story.

It could have been adapted from a novel, one that Stephen abandoned or didn't think would work...or one that he wrote but didn't like for one reason or another. Who knows for sure other than the man himself.

  8. I figured as much. Just sounded like a great idea for a novel, would have loved to have read it, finished or not.
