Well, several I was too young for,so just to answer number six..a girl in my high school class,we had a party on New Year's Eve,at a friend's house,in our senior year. She was seeing one of my friends, but not real serious, and he actually wanted her to give me a kiss as the clock turned over to the new year..it started out slow, and sweet, and then got passionate, for a long time, then ended with being sweet and tender..definitely saw fireworks that night, the best kiss I ever had,she is still a doll..:grinning:

Oh fun -
1. Where you were when Pearl Harbor was announced. Wasn't yet even a fetus.

2. Where you were when Kennedy's shooting was announced (I am old enough for that). Same as above

3. Where you were when you heard about the Challenger. Watching the take off in 6th grade Science class

4. Where you were when you heard about the 9/11 attacks. At home with my sweet baby Ben, having coffee with another mom friend

5. Your number in the draft lottery. Sadly, I don't play the lottery - not sure why, it just slips my mind

6. Your first real kiss. Paul - in 1985, it was some kind of kiss - I think I saw fireworks

mjs9153 - oh snap! I wrote that thing about fireworks before I even read your comments! You never forget those kind of kisses. I hope Paul remembers me as fondly as I remember him.

7. Your first .... I'm gonna pass on that one. Yeah, some things are better left to mystery. But the first time is never the best for sure.

7. Your first love. I'd have to say my Ogre - now that I know what love really is with almost 23 years behind us. There were many infatuations that failed miserably.

8. The smell of your favorite food as a child. Pork chops, broiled in the oven with garlic salt - still my favorite

Number nine... number nine... number nine... What else?

Well, I totally missed this question, huh? Let's just say I didn't see the word "draft", that works for me, OK? If I could edit I would, but let me not be daft unawares. And I never noticed the "7s" until Frank did. So, yeah, now I'm going to bed.

No worries. (The first 7 in the OP list has a strikethrough.)

So, all you kids under my age, which is about all of you, males used to get their draft notices at age 18. If you didn't fit an exemption (medical, student, and so on), it was likely you would be involuntarily conscripted into the Armed Forces. At the time this was going on, so was Vietnam, which was an unpopular war and fatal to many tens of thousands of Americans, so there were a whole bunch of guys who were not exactly enamored with being pulled into involuntarily servitude that could end up in combat.

By the time I was coming to draft age, the draft was replaced with a draft lottery. The priority numbers were assigned to birthdays. When I became of age for the draft, and they were announcing that year's numbers one magical night, and I was in the dorm, you'd hear shouts of glee and groans throughout the halls. That year, they took the top 120 or 125 for the draft, the 126-245 were probably safe, and the 246-365 were most certainly safe. And I was 256. You bet I remember it.

Then three years later, post-Vietnam, mostly, I joined the Marines. Go figure.

1. Where you were when Pearl Harbor was announced. Unborn

2. Where you were when Kennedy's shooting was announced (I am old enough for that). Ditto

3. Where you were when you heard about the Challenger. Getting ready for a class, my first year of University.

4. Where you were when you heard about the 9/11 attacks. Getting my kids ready for school. I saw the first plane & assumed it was a horrible accident. Went up to get DD#1 dressed; a couple of minutes later, #1 son ran upstairs & told me another plane hit. I remember telling him that it was probably an instant replay & to hurry & get his shoes on...

5. Your number in the draft lottery. N/A

6. Your first real kiss. 9th grade. I lied about my age & got a very nice young Marine in trouble.

7. Your first love. My main man. 25 years (23 married), 4 kids, & I still kinda like the galoot :D

8. The smell of your favorite food as a child. My mom's fried chicken. I still love it.

I have no recall for momentous events like those. But strangely enough; in the early seventies here in Toronto, a plane crashed soon
after takeoff, with hundreds aboard and no survivors. I happened to be listening to the radio when I heard about it, and a song came on right after the report and ever since, that song and the crash itself have been forever entwined. And what is even stranger is the fact that our company is working on site adjacent to the site of the crash. Now if I could just recall the name of the song?

1. Where you were when Pearl Harbor was announced. Just DNA in some other people’s makeup.

2. Where you were when Kennedy's shooting was announced (I am old enough for that). In grade school, probably as usual in trouble and getting my hands whacked by the nuns with that long wooden pointer with the black rubber tip.

3. Where you were when you heard about the Challenger. If my memory serves me right, working and the news was passed along in the office.

4. Where you were when you heard about the 9/11 attacks. On the phone with my brother trying to figure out what to do with our uncle the retired spy, who called the evening before from TX and was coming into JFK that morning for a visit. My brother and I were joking with each other that something terrible was going to happen because whenever we heard from that uncle something tragic somewhere in the world happened immediately afterward, and usually where he was at. And during our conversation a plane flew into the World Trade Center.

5. Your number in the draft lottery. The draft lottery ended the year I turned 18. I was still required to register, and wanted to go into the Navy (as I was rejected by every college but one that put extensive demands on me if I were to attend, luckily the Community College "had" to take me) but was rejected and told no branch would take me with my spinal injury.

6. Your first real kiss. Honestly don’t recall… must not have been very memorable.

7. Your first .... I'm gonna pass on that one. Well… It involved a 1960 Corvair.

7. Your first love. The 1960 Corvair. ;)

8. The smell of your favorite food as a child. Grandma’s homemade chicken soup on the stove for the family get-togethers on Sundays, after mass.

Jeeze - keep an eye on him, and let me know when he calls next.

1) I was about 30 years shy of being born (even my parents weren't around 'til '51 and '53 respectively).

2) The Questionable Wonder of Me was still the best part of a decade away from birth.

3) Given the time of day and the fact I'd have been just shy of 13...I was probably at school or just getting home. Actually...I might have run home already, dropped my bag off, and gone to a friend's house. (copied from the 'Remembering Challenger' thread)

4) At my sister's, looking after my nephew while she ran some errands. She came in and said someone had bombed New York. I didn't believe it, turned on the TV...and in a way it was worse than she'd said.

5) N/A

6) I was 13, and it was with a girl a year older than me. :D I walked around thinking I was in love for about a week after - almost an eternity, back then.

7) *ahem* A gentleman never tells. :shh:

7) My first love is also the source of my biggest (and probably only true) regret. 25 years on, I still can't forget her or forgive myself. (Is that wicker? Why yes, I'd love to make a basket.)
(BTW, I didn't do anything bad. It was to do with something that I didn't do at all.)

8) I don't really have a favourite food. I have things I like and things I don't, but mostly I just scoff because I have to.

1) I wasn't born yet
2) Same as the first one.
3) I haven't heard about any Challenger. Which year was that? maybe it's the same as with the first and second one.
4) I was 14 years old. I had just came home from the stable and my mom said what had happened. Then I looked in the news myself.
5) Haven't never heard about draft lottery. Maybe I am too young to have heard about it
6) I was 17 and it was with my first boyfriend. He's now my ex boy friend.
7) In junior high I had a crush on a boy in one of my classes. But the boy was never interested.
8) My grandmothers homemade bread.

4. 9/11: I was in bed that morning after a supervivid dream about the building destruction in the movie Independence Day.

When I woke up I remember thinking how I hadn't seen that movie in years. I was sweating out (unprepared as usual) an upcoming Spanish test later that day at Parris Island...working on my first degree. Turned out that military base went on lockdown before the test.

I started breakfast and put on the news right when the first plane hit.

I was only 2.

3. Where you were when you heard about the Challenger.
Walking into a restaurant where I was a waiter and seeing everyone glued to the TVs at the bar.

4. Where you were when you heard about the 9/11 attacks.
At work in NYC. A very scary, sad day that I can and will never forget.

5. Your number in the draft lottery.
Too young for the draft so I do not have a number, but I am registered with the selective service.

6. Your first real kiss. At a bar. Yes, I was a slut.

7. Your first .... I'm gonna pass on that one. I don't remember! See second part of my answer to #6. :wink2:

7. Your first love.
I remember him well and still think about him once in a while. Please don't tell my husband!

8. The smell of your favorite food as a child.
My mother's cooked-all-day "gravy" with meatballs and sausage.
