Had a kind, understanding sort as a JV football coach, while I was bear crawling across the field during conditioning, after the regular practice, kicked me in the head and knocked me over because I was last..was wearing a helmet, but still,a full on kick,he wasn't holding anything back.Same guy, heck we were just kids, and lost a game by like forty eight points, and being kids, were laughing and joking on the bus coming back to school..and he was boiling. So he lines us up out back of the school, after we had played a full game, and announced we were going to run a hundred yard sprint for every point we lost by..we got about a dozen in,kids were really tired, some puking going on,but he meant every word, and finally one of the dads stepped in and read him the riot act, ending the punishment.Same guy let a kid who broke his leg midway through practice just lie there, moved practice around him, finally called for an ambulance after practice was over and all the kids were gone..even the kid with the broken leg,I remember him yelling out "my leg is broken, you F@#cking Idiot!" when coach told him to get up and get back to practice..the school system paid out a big settlement on that one,let me tell you..

My second grade teacher gave me my only spanking in school...

She was crying the whole time. I asked her why. She told me she felt so sorry for me when I got home.

Remember when getting in trouble at school meant the same at home?

Man I do...

Usually meant double when you got home. Dad was always quick to remind us that "Getting in trouble at school will be the LEAST of your concerns once you get home."...lol

One reason I never wore one was my daddy always told me if you were good enough with glove didn't need it.

OK I played SS for about 17 or so years so not as dangerous as when wearing "the tools of ignorance".

The ball bouncing off the plate can go in funny directions. I was catching a game where the pitcher bounced a breaking ball off the plate that got me right under the cup. That was not a fun game......

Not having a standardized test dictate the school curriculum.

No silly "common core" mathematics.

Now you are supposed to purchase special drinking water hoses if want to drink out of them. How did we ever survive? :)
No helmets, no knee pads, free to roam the street, played out in the road, didn't have a cell phone( parents had to wait till you arrived at a friends house or pay phone to ck in). You ate homemade baked good at school parties.
