I remember reading something about "go-go juice", something that these mothers would give to kids in pagents. I don't know if this mother was one of them.

Once again Jen you have taken the thoughts right out of my brain. As one who joins you in the Chunky Sisterhood I agree that June probably does have a lot of self worth issues behind her actions. Sad, but I hope that she will be able to see past that to help her youngest daughter.

I'm sometimes tempted to pause at the term "reality show".Never watched the TV show- from what I did see on ads, snip-it interviews- very "strange" crew indeed. No thank you!
...indeed there are...Mama Moron is double fugly BECAUSE she's an idiot.....I do not think it is her size that folks take issue with but her stupidity. There are many attractive bigger women.

I did in internship for Child Protective Services. We had a call that we needed to investigate immediately. I went along with two seasoned workers and they talked while driving to the house. The mother was well known as were her poor daughters.
First time CPS was involved when the father was arrested for incest with both daughters.Medical exams showed molestation/damage. Daughters related several instances of molestation. Mom claimed she knew nothing. Father went to prison.
Awhile after, CPS went in to investigate molestation of the two girls by Mom's new boyfriend. After some investigation, boyfriend decided he was going to take a job in a far away state. Daughters were still in the system.
This time, third, we were on the way to investigate boyfriend #2 regarding molesting the girls.
I was a green, wet-behind-the-ears intern so I just listened to the caseworkers talk. They were obviously upset and disgusted. One said, "Where does she find these guys? Molesters R Us"? "She finds a guy that won't bother her for sex and turns a blind eye when he's missing with the girls." "Hey, she has a man. She's a hot one. Being able to get a man with two kids in tow."
It was pretty gut wrenching.
Peace
Crap in a blender! Why were the girls still in the home? How many times does mom need to bring these monsters home before the system figures out she's not gonna stop on her own?
Encountered this kind of behaviour many times with Children's Services.Mom went along with counseling and parenting classes. Swore she had no idea what was going on and said the right things. And to tell truth, group homes and foster homes are scarcer than a hen's teeth. If the girls were removed they would have gone to juvenile justice facility. (Where kids who have committed crimes and found guilty of crimes are held. The two girls are not criminals they are victims but...sources are scarce.)
Peace.
IMHO, it's part of the dumbing-down which has been ongoing in our society for long time. It's a sign of the times. What worries me is wondering what kind of audience this show caters to. Has society dropped it's standards this bloody far? I never use the term"white trash" but it wants to tumble off my tongue very muchly. There is no other term that fits these folks.
It would be hard to see that stuff day after day and still remember that most of us are doing the best we can, that most children grow up to be pretty much okay, and that even the worst childhoods can be overcome. (After all, in most of these cases, somebody called CPS, right? Someone who realized "this ain't right.") But I think it's important to remember that too.I've encountered stuff in dependency and neglect cases that would turn your stomach and make you want to give up on the human race. I won't talk about it. And you don't want me to. You may think so out of morbid curiosity, but no, you really don't. Just sick, wrong, and things that you know result in a doomed child down the road.
It's very human to want to set ourselves above others. It makes us feel as if we are somehow safe. It's reassuring. "I may have done some bad things ... but not like that. I would never do that." I doubt that very many people watched this show and aspired to be that family. It's a train wreck, and then as I said, it's very human to want to feel as if we are above some of the worst behavior. What worries me is wondering what kind of audience this show caters to. Has society dropped it's standards this bloody far? I never use the term"white trash" but it wants to tumble off my tongue very muchly. There is no other term that fits these folks.
