I think putting your phone in camera mode like you're going to take a selfie then looking at the eclipse over your shoulder should work just as well as glasses. The screen on your phone should take care of any direct light issues I think. In spite of all the hoorah about it, I completely blanked out on trying to get the right glasses to view the eclipse. I think it was because I had it in my head we weren't in the path but turns out we'll have about 50-60% of the full eclipse. Will at least get to experience some of the darkness. I did see the one in 1963 so not a complete loss as far as total eclipses go.
Will check into that--thanks!I think putting your phone in camera mode like you're going to take a selfie then looking at the eclipse over your shoulder should work just as well as glasses. The screen on your phone should take care of any direct light issues I think.
They have actually been reporting that this can damage your phone unless you have a special filter for it.I think putting your phone in camera mode like you're going to take a selfie then looking at the eclipse over your shoulder should work just as well as glasses. Or...it may also turn you into a werewolf....I'm not sure, it could go either way...lolI think he means --
You don't actually look through the viewfinder at the eclipse. You stand with the eclipse to your back and then put the camera in selfie mode and you see yourself and the eclipse over your shoulder -- you aren't directly looking at it through the eyepiece.
I think that wouldn't hurt you but always better safe than sorry.
Not damage to the person. Damage to the phone itself. Protect Your Eyes & Camera Equipment For Total Solar Eclipse « CBS New YorkI think he means --
