It's your adaptation of his work so I personally think it's your choice as to how you want to interpret it. If you don't like how it looks, you can always remove that stitching.This thread was started just in time. I just got a cross stitch pattern that is from a Van Gogh painting. I am so excited to start it.
The pattern uses only plain thread. (Thread is cotton.) I think adding a bit of sparkle would be nice. It's Starry Night, and I was thinking for the stars and maybe moon, I would use the colour asked for combined with a similar colour with some sparkle. Would it be wrong to change it in such a way? People change paintings all the time don't they?
Artists do things like that all of the time. They create homages to original works. The only thing is whether or not your version ends up appealing to you.This thread was started just in time.
