I see the poppies are popping up everywhere. We get November 11th off as a Statutory Holiday up here - is it the same down in the States?
Veterans day is actually Monday (tomorrow) here. But I have along day of appointments and did not want to forget.

So - we have ours one week later... It had something to do with the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. I should know my history better, being a veteran myself (blush) - I guess I could always blame it on age related memory loss??? 
Oh my Iam a week early. Woke up this morning to discover its only the 4th. whoops!
I was beginning to wonder if I had missed a week somewhere along the way. WHEW!!
...all veterans have a special place in my heart, and it's even more poignant now that my son is serving...
It's not a stat holiday in Ontario.
My son is performing in the Remembrance Day assembly at school. His class will be singing In Flander's Field.
Thank your son for his service to the country.
I did my enlisted time many years ago. Today's soldiers face many more hardships... and they don't all come from the other side. Don't even get me started on what our current administration is doing to the military.
Remembrance Day isn't until next Monday. Nothing wrong with spending a week saying thank you though.Wait........what day is it?

I am afraid when I was in the military it was a slightly different world. Actually I was just getting my release in September 2001 just before the twin towers incident that changed the world forever. So I never saw any active duty in Iraq or Afghanistan. I do appreciate those who laid down their lives for their country. GntlGnt - I hope your boy is doing well in the Army - let us know how he is doing
Iraq has been hard on our soldiers. My son-in-law has has served a few turns there. Neesy glad you do not have to serve there.
