Iraq has been hard on our soldiers. My son-in-law has has served a few turns there. Neesy glad you do not have to serve there.
I'm retired now - it's been a while for me! I look quite different now - hair is no longer red, no longer have glasses thanks to laser surgery :nerd: - I hope your son-in-law is okay - many soldiers come back with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder so I hope his family can help him get over his tours of duty - take care of you and yours king family fan :love_heart:

Came across this while getting my son somethings together to take to school for Veterans day and just wanted to share. I am not sure of who wrote this so unknown author.

This Yellow Ribbon. . . . .

This yellow ribbon I now hold
Shows our respect for deeds untold.
I look at it and wonder why.
We’ve chosen it to fill our skies.

This yellow ribbon for all to see
Waves like “Old Glory” proud and free.
It hangs from tree, from fence, from car’
It hangs for you, wherever you are.

This yellow ribbon knows knows what to do.
When we get down just missing you.
It gives us courage to live with fears,
But still yet cannot stop our tears.

This yellow ribbon I wear today.
Shows all the words once hard to say.
Your fight for some may seem all wrong.
But our countrys fair and together strong.

-Not sure of the author-

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

To all special forces, past, present, and future, everyone who has walked point and been on the tip of the spear, to all veteran's everywhere, know you are VERY much appreciated, admired, and respected. May you have long days and pleasant nights. You are all modern day Gunslingers and we are proud of all of you.
...that really hit the bull from a thousand yards man...thank you so kindly...

GntlGnt - I hope your boy is doing well in the Army - let us know how he is doing

...he is doing well, he tells us, on the firing line-shooting is a strnght....the physical training he's not struggling with-but he's having a hell of a time getting it done in the clock limits they put on it...so we're all sweating that out...I know that sounds confusing, but what I'm saying is...he can run, do push-ups, sit-ups etc. without trouble-it's the stopwatch he's battling against...

Will be holding your son in positives and asking that powers that be give him the extra "push" he needs to beat the clock.

He'll do great GNT, you how it is in the military, even when you do something right, do don't do it right, pursuit of perfection, that is the technique they use on everyone. Even if you make the time, they might tell you missed it by just a smidge....makes you try even harder the next time, pretty soon, you're 30 seconds UNDER what they say the cut is and you think you are Superman. It's a mentality they are striving to instill, never be satisfied with what you do, always try harder. He's going to be a soldier the next time you see him, give him a hug, shake his hand, and tell him how damn proud you..and all of us are of him.

If you see a person in a uniform today;
Navy blue or Air Force green or, even, Army gray,
Khakis, whites, or camouflage, whichever one they wear -
Take the time to thank them for protecting us out there.

But let's not forget the vets at home who've paid the price
Or their families who've also had to sacrifice.
'though they're out of uniform they, too, deserve our thanks.
All of them have honored us by serving in our ranks.

Good luck to your son - strength is just as important as speed. I was a skinny thing back in Basic in 1980 (I went from 105 lb when I entered and left at 115 lb) - if your son is a big muscular boy sometimes it's harder to be swift. I found it hard to go over the wall but I was good at running. And back then they didn't make the girls do the rope climb (it's probably different now!) He has youth and adaptability on his side so it should all work out in the end. :star:
