After keeping track of every book I have read for over 40 years, I am soon to strike the momentous number of 1313! (I just finished 1310.) After long and deep contemplation of what book or author should receive the outstanding honor of this number, I believe Stephen King is probably most deserving. Please give suggestions as to your favorites or those you consider most qualified for this once-in-a-lifetime chance!

I have several titles which are not eligible and some which are most likely but won't share them till I see what others say. Thank you for your expert advice.

Have you read 11/22/63? I think you would like it - that's the one I would vote for.

I don't understand what you mean. Honor? What of his books you like? or What title of his books you like?

Honor a title by making it number 1313 on the list of every book I have ever read. I have only a few titles to go to hit the ominous number and am interested in peoples' suggestions before naming ineligible titles (because I've already read them) or my own inclinations towards preferences.

That was going to be my suggestion

That might be a perfect choice as the very first national event I remember was the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, the 50th anniversary of which is tomorrow. I began to pay attention to the Kennedy family during the buildup to the 10th anniversary of JFK's assassination over the summer of 1973. How different that summer would have been had RFK been elected and we didn't have to endure Watergate! I became rather obsessed with aspects of both assassinations and the Kennedys in general and although I have attempted to curb my fascination I have never recovered from it, so this might be a very good choice.

My second favorite SK. I always wonder if things don't happen the way they do for a reason. As you will see if you read 11/22/63.

11/22/63 gets my vote for a lot of things. I didn't think anything ever would but it may have surpassed IT as my favourite. It has it all - time travel, 1950s Americana, a major world event, 2 brilliant main characters and a large supporting cast of colourful and interesting characters. Out of all the King books I've read so far, Sadie is the best female adult character he's created.

I think you should pick the book most probably that was when you started reading Stephen King books and you say that you've been reading his work since 1978, so I would say anything around that period. I like King's stuff around the 1979-89 era because they seemed to resonate with me because of the time, and I like the kind of stuff.

The Stand was actually the front runner, as I loved the post-apocalyptic novel Earth Abides by George R. Stewart, and because The Stand was the only King title to make the PBS Big Read 100 Favorites, but I am very suspicious of that list because it included Fifty Shades of Grey and not one Bradbury title!
