We got a dog! She's a 3-year-old American Eskimo named "Miska" which is Russian for "Little Bear", because she is a lot like a little polar bear. The girls have badly wanted a dog for years and Jillian gives the cats far more attention than they want, so we've been hoping to find an affectionate dog that can fit our more urban (small yard) lifestyle, but one who doesn't mind being alone and crated while we're at work, and can get along with cats. Puppies are too much work but it's hard to find a good dog that anyone is willing to give up. Shelter dogs have been frustrating because so many are discarded pit bulls or have health/behavioral problems or are very old.

We found Miska online, she came from a nice family out in a rural area who had 3 dogs, a bunch of sheep and alpacas, and some cats. They were looking to scale back on the animals they have, and Miska is an indoors-loving lap dog who loves attention and their daughter is not as interested in the dog as she used to be, so they were hoping to find a good home for her. Miska is really more of a city dog who was stuck living in the country so we're a good match for her.

She's perfectly healthy and extremely docile, good with kids and cats, doesn't require much outdoors time, and doesn't bark unless strangers come into the house, then quiets down once they pet her. She and Jillian instantly bonded and their personalities are perfect for each other. Addie likes her too because she is so docile and sweet (Addie likes dogs but so many of them make her nervous). We really liked her and the owners were going on a short vacation over the weekend, so they let us take her home on a "trial basis" and said we could return her if she doesn't work out. After just one day we already know we're going to keep her. She's been the perfect little lady and gets along great with the cats and kids. She's affectionate but not overly needy and doesn't have separation issues, she hasn't chewed on anything, she's housebroken and crate-trained and doesn't show any aggressive tendencies. Here are some pictures!
