I finished Mr Mercedes a few hours ago, now in keeping with my recent routine of reading a novel, then a short story (or 2), I'm about to read the jaunt, before deciding my next book.

If you get the chance, check out Alfred Bester's The Stars My Destination...or maybe it was The Demolished Man...possible inspiration for The Jaunt. Or not, either way.

Nothing unusual per se, but I was really upset that he left his readers hanging until the next book! I understand there are 5 more books to come, I just hope he doesn't lollygag about, I have limited time!! I'm glad you liked River . :okay:
Agreed. Each book before has been pretty much complete.

I'm re-reading Ghost Story, again. Peter Straub is one author whose work almost demands repeated visits. But I do know he's not to everyone's liking. I'm also into The Likeness by Tana French.
Both good reads! I don't love everything by Straub, but Ghost Story is my favorite of his. French is a very interesting writer--can't wait to read her new one.

Finished Dead of Night (Marberry) last night--he made me snot sob right at the end. Good adult zombie book--not a lot of character development, but it's a quick, action-filled read that would make a really good film (especially with a director like James Gunn; it has that Slither vibe). I hope to start his Patient Zero tomorrow. I'm also reading Drop Dead Healthy (A.J. Jacobs). He's very funny (I really enjoyed The Year of Living Biblically and The Know It All), and his wife is a patient, patient woman.

OK, the Jaunt was cool. I never used to like short stories, but now every one I read, I like. Now I'm back to staring at my books for about 10 minutes, reaching for one, pulling back, looking some more, picking one up, putting it back, looking some more......damn my indecisiveness. At one point it was between The Talisman and WTTKH, now it's between those 2, Bag of Bones, Buick 8, Needful Things, Firestarter. I don't know how the hell that happened.

Reading Popsy in Nightmares & Dreamscapes. If you have this book, there's still time to read the story before our discussion tonight @ 8:30 (Central)-it's a very short story. Join us! =D
I did read this one, but ending up missing the discussion group (again!). Which one is next?
