Reading, actually for the first time. some of Du Mauriers shortstories including The Birds. So far its great. I've read two or three of her novels earlier but none of her shorts. So far definitely worth doing.
Oh, and in a sidenote... Can someone knowledgeable out there tell me what kind of form Koontz is in in Cold Fire? I have read some good Koontz and some that wasn't worth my time. He is a Hit-or-Miss with me. Which one is this?? GNT??
....it's a cross between a thriller and sci-fi IMO....not one of my favorites because it needed trimmed by a few thousand words.....

i've read this one, but i sure can't remember what happened specifically in it right now. the ending didn't bother me, i know that much. but for me i guess it wasn't one of his more memorable. i'll have to reread it at some point

You might be thinking about a TV-series. They made one from her book about 10-15 years ago. Havent seen it so don't know how close it was to the original. I know that Bernard Cromwell, Mary Stewart and Rosemary Sutcliffe all have written series about arthur or persons close to him that were well thought of. Havent read any of them myself. I have read other things by cromwell and his historical things are often rather fastpaced and actionfilled. You might try him. By Jakes do you mean John Jakes? The same guy that wrote North and South? Thats the only Jakes that come to mind. I liked the North and South trilogy.
Yes, John Jakes. I hadn't heard of Excalibur until I saw it at the secondhand store. I really liked the North and South trilogy, and most of his The Americans series--the historical ones, anyway. Once he got to the more modern times, I lost interest.

Finished Monte Verita (The Mountain of Truth). More of a novella than a short story, about 75 pages. But is has that haunting atmospheric eerie feel too it thats so typical of much of her work. I once thought that she was a typical One-Hit-Wonder. It was Rebecca and nothing else but i have started to find out how wrong i am. Next in this collection is a story called The Apple Tree. It is about a deceased wife that haunts her husband in the shape of an apple tree.... Sounds loony but we'll see if she can work her magic again.
