Finished "Doctor Sleep" this evening. Couldn't put it down...loved this story. Yep, it's kick-ass, you betcha. The story of grown-up Dan and his demons is true to the bone. I read "The Shining" for the first time last year, and liked this sequel considerably better. The ending is the BEST! Also read "Coolidge" by Amity Shales. Good reading about a President I knew next to nothing about, and the times he lived in. Reading through the posts, I'm finding lots of interesting titles...don't know what to start next!

Well, Mr. King, I am going to have to put Natchez Burning aside as I remember I have not finished Amy Tan's Valley of Amazement. Mz. Tan's story of very early 20th century Shanghei courtesans is elaborate in description and grips the imagination to the fullest.

Finished Phantom Prey from Sanford...an ok story. There is a scene early on, the hero in a bar...two potential perps/bad guys...you the reader do not know who they are thought later you learn...but too, in this one, he uses "the fairy" to designate the bad guy (a woman)....fairy as in goth...and he uses that word to hide the identity of the person. And in the bar scene from the previous sentence...looking back I had the idea that one of the two perps was the fairy w/a male accomplice. Bout the only time I felt like I was being jerked around. Still, a good story. People interested in madness, multiple-personality type stuff might enjoy it.

on All the Names now from Saramago and his clerk, senor Jose reminds me of Pessoa...who is a real hoot. Saramago takes a bit getting used to...style-wise...block paragraphs, dialogue within paragraph, no ">>>" he said she said to set it apart...one can follow it but it is not the "norm". No rabbits were harmed by this post.

The Darkside of the Moon (England really)
I'm just shy of half way into the regulators, I think I may have to concede defeat to it. I just don't seem to have the desire to pick up the book like I do with most other king books. I think the main problems are:

1, the whole 'power rangers' type of cartoon angle
2, tak speaking "western"
3, so much happening in a confined space - I had the same problem with the shining and desperation, it's also the reason I have put off reading misery

You might enjoy Misery, it's quite different to those you've mentioned. I'm still on The Regulators myself and have to admit I've slowed down momentum also. Not sure if it's more to do with having less time, (and I tend to fall asleep easily when I read these days  ) or if it is story related.

I just started Mr Penumbras 24 Hour Bookstore, by Robin Sloan. A fun little story so far.

Read a summary of this, sounds most intriguing.

I've had this book in my wishlist for a while, can't wait to hear what you think of it!

I have just not had time for reading. Still working on The Kept, and also a Different Seasons reread. Need to clear the deck for Mr. Mercedes, release day is also first day of summer vacation here. Can anyone think of a better way to begin summer than with a new Stephen King book in hand? :m_excited:
