I finished 2001: A Space Odyssey. The film and the novel were created concurrently over 4 years, with many changes being made all through the process. The novel was released a few months after the film and like most readers we're never happy with adaptations of books we like. I do think the film and the novel are companions and should be treated as such. I'm not sure in which order you should enjoy them but I understand the film a lot better now.
I started Beethoven: Anguish and Triumph, by Jan Swafford. A long but very readable biography and The Demonologist, by Andrew Pyper.
