I finished Beloved by Toni Morissette over the weekend. This was my "Banned Book" that I picked from the other thread.
I didn't love it. I wanted to like it more than I did, but it just wasn't getting me. I felt confused by her constantly jumping between character view points and time frames. I was focusing so much on when something was supposed to have happened that I lost some of the story. And I was really hoping for a more satisfying ending.

That makes two of us. You took the words right out of my mouth. I don't even remember the ending.

How To Pass As Human. STRANGE book, passed on by my editor for a quick review. Part robotics manual, part sociology study, part...romance? Really difficult to read. It wants to be like The Zombie Survival Handbook (Max Brooks), but tossing in an actual narrative storyline killed that device. I'll plow through, as the review is due on the 20th, but WOW this is hard to read!

Sounds like...bleechh...I have some paper clips you can borrow, in case you'd rather puncture your eyeballs than continue reading that gunk.

I loved Donna Tartt's The Secret History. I checked out The Little Friend from the library. I hate to admit how long I had the book. I only got 200 pages or so in. What is happening here? :umm: =D. I have mixed feelings about what I read. In a way, I loved the set up of the story, the characters and her prose is beautiful. I just couldn't bring myself to finish it. I see that it has very mixed reviews. Anyone here read this novel? Thoughts?
I'm still hoping to read The Goldfinch.
Thanks.

I liked the Little Friend. It is not as good as The Secret History (very few books are) and is very different but for me it was well worth reading on. The Goldfinch is also very good.

Thank you Kurben. I may wait awhile and give it another try. I was absorbed by Harriet and her adventures. And also Tartt's way with words and descriptions. After glancing over Goodreads, I see that the ending is left ambiguous. Sigh. Lots of times this is perfectly okay but I was very invested in finding out what happened.

Appreciate the reply. :)
