Thanks. How long do you still have to go?

My Master's program wraps in mid-December. We have two courses over the summer semester and the two fall terms are comprised of our Capstone project, which is a consulting gig for an actual company. We don't know who it's going to be yet.

After that, I'm done with degrees! I may take the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam next year. It'll make a nice companion to my Certified Scrum Master certification. Just some more letters for the alphabet soup on the 'ole resume!

My yard is finally, --after 4 years of neglect -- returning to the normal, beautiful yard I once had. I have ripped out a ton of mature landscaping, I have gotten rid of knick knack garden things (things I loved, but just too much, bordering on old lady yard.) . Now everything is looking clean and fresh and organized. And my chi is feeling great. Sitting on my back patio every single day, loving my yard, loving the breeze and the trees and my flowers.

On the downside, my quail are super pissed off at me. I have rezoned their neighborhood and they are seriously ticked off. I had a daddy quail screeching at me one day as I cleaned an area. But note, I cleaned most of this through the winter and just some this spring BEFORE they could lay their eggs.

But, one spot I didn't get to in time. I was headed that way a couple days ago and watched a mommy and daddy quail duck their heads and go in. After I watched them leave, I then looked and yep, a nest of eggs. So, I will leave that area alone until they can get these kids raised. I am a very good landlord.
I was thinking of buying one of those solar powered teapot houses for the back deck - they look something like this:

It does look sort of kitschy but I'll have to decide once I give it a good exam at the store

Today, I mourn. If you're a FB friend, you may have already read this.
__________

A friend takes ill, and you want to be there, but visitations aren't the order of the day. The family sets up a CaringBridge account, which isn't a good sign. But you stay on top of the news and talk with mutual friends about the sudden onset and hope desperately for the best. You look for the day when you can clink beer cans with him and say, "Boy, wasn't that a scare."

Your friend is one with a ready smile and laugh, bereft of ego, entirely generous, completely devoted to the loving family that he nurtured so well. The friend is an avid outdoorsman, which you wouldn't guess from his appearance, but he's spent his share of time traipsing, camping, fishing, and hunting through the back country of his beloved Rocky Mountains.

He's wonderfully sharp, a stalwart of his profession and a willing resource for others. It seems like there no area, no minutiae, in his corner of business that he doesn't know about, yet he would be the last one to call himself a fixture in his field. But everyone else knows otherwise.

And then as you get ready for bed, you get one more CaringBridge notification and read the awful news. It's too stunning to react outwardly, although that will come later. You make some calls so other friends hear it personally. No one wants to talk much because you've all been talking in grim, quiet tones about it for the last few days. You exchange a few words and click off to process the unthinkable.

About all that is left for the night is to try to impress upon people what an understated but wonderful presence this man was for so many people and how his passing leaves a hole in the fabric of humanity that cannot be mended, only worked around.

Bill Fischer, husband, father, friend, attorney, outdoorsman, community contributor, and stellar human being, unconditional in the love and friendship that he radiated and received back in full measure because we had no other choice for such a man.

We miss you already, dear friend.
So sorry to hear of the passing of your good friend, Grandpa

Today is part two of the front yard clean up.

Yesterday we got nine bags of dead leaves and other detritus from one side of the lawn (the smaller part) plus the boulevard. There was so much dust and dirt mixed in with those dead leaves, especially near the roadway.

I got a blister on my right hand, even though I was wearing gardening gloves. It felt good to finally clean up that mess so now the new grass can grow through.

I guess that now Andy is back home he can officially be the house gardener (he likes to garden). He did get winded after about an hour of raking and had to sit down. He's had trouble with his lungs lately.

Josh and his friend Pam helped as well. It took about 2 1/2 hours to do. Now I wish it would rain!

Had a frustrating several days mostly regarding the plumber. Back when Mom's church group met here, the couch cover got cleaned several times a year, but three years ago I pulled the plug on that and the state of the couch became a bit much. Skipper has this favorite spot there. I couldn't find a picture showing the worst of it but here he is looking offended after I ruined his spot by cleaning the couch cover.

At its worst instead of a slight indentation, he carves a huge channel or trough in that cushion into which he can sink at least halfway. On Wednesday I had to strip the couch cover, clean and fluff up the cushions as best I could, then scrape and brush a thick mat of hair off the cover before putting it in the wash. This mat is not recognizably black and white but a mass of grimy gray. I then washed the couch cover and blanket twice and put in the dryer. After running a few more loads of laundry, half the kitchen floor was covered in water. I had to throw down every rag I had just washed and get a few more. I called the plumber about this.

Keep in mind, there are only three plumbers in this area. One is good but a flaming psycho. One is nice but we don't usually have him because he was going to charge $3,000.00 to do a job my brother-in-law and our friend fixed for under $25.00. The third is the one to go to. He came over on Thursday, tested the washer, and said it was probably just a clog. The lint screen was piled thick with hair after I had washed the things twice! I mentioned the sink sprayer was acting up as well.

Of course the sprayer chose Saturday, the day before Mother's Day, to spaz out entirely. Luckily I was still in my work clothes as I had just come in from watering in the garden. I tried to turn on the sink and was hit full in the chest by the sprayer which no efforts could shut off! Finally had to stick it into the sink drain and tape an "OUT OF ORDER" sign on it. Of course my sister made us several huge meals and with the sink nearly useless I could hardly wash any dishes so they're still piled all over the kitchen. I contacted the plumber, who said he would be here late afternoon Monday. When he wasn't here by Monday evening, he said Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. (This was all by text.) When he didn't show up by 10:30, I texted three times and finally called at 3:30 p.m. and got only an answering machine. I called someone who works with him and got the same. I went on Facebook figuring if he was injured there would be messages saying, "Hang in there, buddy," and if he was dead there would be messages saying, "Nice knowing you," but there were none and no mentions of him in other posts, so I figure something else happened.

He was supposed to come on Wednesday anyway to replace a broken radiator, so maybe we'll see him and maybe not. This sink has been in only a year or two and I told him to get us one which works this time as this is far from a first; all the sinks I could manage to find at local hardware stores were junk.

Skipper is so handsome! Sorry to hear about your plumber woes, not cool when they give you a time then don't show up.

Working today. BrodyDog walk tonight before workshop. The showcase is on Sunday so this is the last meeting before we hit the stage.

Got homework to do for my operations course that hasn't even started yet. Man, I don't like that professor
Energy vibes. Manifesting a successful operations course. Has BrodyDog gotten his May BarkBox yet?
