Last night my high school age son informed me that one of the other performers just got back to school after being off with lice. And my son's gf sent him a message that she now has them.

I checked my son's head and didn't see any lice or nits. There are red spots, but with eczema in the family, these are probably quite normal.

Anyway, I've decided being pro-active is probably a good idea. I don't want to use a nasty chemical...especially when I don't think he actually has them... So, I'm going to try the cetaphil. Looks the safest, and the cleanser won't get wasted. He can use it for washing afterwards.

~~~
Teachers must be freaking. They have dress rehearsal today for Monday's performance, and they are just getting into preparing for the Winter Variety Show. And this going on with the Performing Arts students.
there's a recipe out there on the web for a natural shampoo that will take care of it - has peppermint oil, tea tree oil, and some others - it was going around constantly when my oldest was in K - so we just always used it as a preventive.
So - this is a good place to share this bit of horror.
I didn't sleep well, so I decided to take a leisurely bubble bath this morning instead of a shower - I'm fortunate that I can go in late to work every now and then. So I'm just relaxing, trying to get in a good happy place - and there's something floating in the water with me, and then I see legs - :shock:THERE'S A BROWN RECLUSE IN THE TUB WITH ME!!!!
If you live near the woods in the South, you probably have to deal with these guys - we've been cohabitating for years, but they never fail to frighten and shock me. I left the culprit on the husband's sink so he'll have a good scare this afternoon.
So much for relaxing! - I'm going to be worthless at work today. I look like Heck and everyone is going to say, Are you sick? Don'cha love it when you're just having an off day and you get told a thousand times that you look sick. I think I'm going to play into it and say, Yes - I feel horrible. And then I am going to take some comp time and go get a massage - that might help because now I am so tense my neck and shoulders are sore.
Ugh! I'm am terrified of getting lice! My little preschool brother brought it home when I was in 5th grade, and my having such wonderful thick fluffy frizzy hair was a siren call to em. Shaved bro's head and he was good to go but I had to battle the buggers for what seemed like forever! We'd think we had em gone, then we'd find em again. Took like a year to be totally rid of em using the Nix shampoo and the little comb. And burning every blanket, pillow, and stuffed animal we had in the house. I still freak out about it, I was traumatized. I still wig out everytime I have an itch on my head, will sometimes freak me out so bad I go running to the bathroom mirror to inspect my scalp, pulling my hair out to look for the nits. If my kid ever brings em home, I'm going to burn the school down. Seriously though, if I ever get em again, I will not waste time with shampoos and combs, I will go full Bjork and shave myself bald. I will hate it, because my hair (still thick and frizzy) is long enough to touch my bum now, and I'll look totally horrible with no hair, but I will not go through that again! I just can't, I'll have to be committed.
As for spiders in the bath, that's ew too! I hate spiders...
There's a natural remedy for lice that's just as effective as harsh chemical shampoo.
Jug of vinegar.
Jar of lemon juice.
Salt.
That's it. Mix 'em up and rinse hair thoroughly. Use a cup to thoroughly soak and repeat as many times as you like. Just have the kid (or whoever it is) hold a folded washrag over their eyes to keep splashes out.
Do it once a week, because that's about how long it takes lice eggs to hatch. Me, I'd do it every 4 days for a couple of weeks, just to be certain.
Hint: warm the solution up before dousing somebody's head with it. That stuff gets COLD!
YIKES! Got bit by a recluse when I was a kid...playing around in an old abandoned chicken house.....there were about a million recluses holed up....had been told not to play in there because of the recluses they were so bad......crappy experience, looked like my index finger on my right hand was going to rot off for a few weeks.......such a small spider to pack such a punch.
Remembers me on my elementary school time. Sometimes we got a small piece of paper for our parents. Lice alarm!
My mom did drive straight to my grandmom and told her to take a look. I never had any but in kindergarten and elementary school it's pretty normal. Don't worry. And drive to your granny and visit her!
