Such a stupid thing to ask but didn't Janey comment on him not being white when she gave him the Fedora hat?

It's funny my sister bought me Finders Keepers for my birthday not knowing it was part of a trilogy. I didn't realize either because a Bill doesn't come in until way later and you can tell from the way it's written that theres some backstory that you're missing. I had picked up that he might be of African descent... little things... The name, manneurisms, but you can't be sure, there's never a clear description (not that I remember.)

Then in the Mr. Mercedes TV show he's white isn't he?

Hodges is white. I'll have to see if I can find the reference about the hat to explain that.

I think I've found the reference but it was when Jerome tried on the brown Fedora. He asked Hodges if he thought Jerome looked like Bogie and Hodges replied that Bogie was Caucasian. Janey adds, "So Caucasian he practically shimmered."

Not stupid at all. It was only the TV series that made me think "He's not black?". For some reason he was black in my brain images while I was reading the trilogy.
