Someone was giving their kid one of those names and I told her she must be a very patient and understanding person (she's not) because for the rest of her life she would be hearing people saying her child's name wrong.

Same when they "invent" a spelling. You have no right to be upset when people spell it wrong.

I like the game of thrones names, like umm o.k. My favorite is naming the kids drogo. Like just look at the guy who plays drogo, he is gross. And kaliesse, and Sansa,

Hard-to-pronounce names. Come on parents, if 9 out of 10 people will not be able to pronounce the kid’s name... what were you thinking?

I have a niece with a name that nobody can pronounce by it’s spelling, and some 20 years on I can’t even spell it.

I'm okay with weird names, or ethnic names. I'm surrounded by kids named Eilidh, Temperance and Torleif (Oh wait, that last one's mine.)

But, I get weirded out by invented spellings too. I don't mean within cultures where creating new names and spellings is the norm, that's okay with me. Little kids named Laquanna, Sunsearainbow and Heberlinda (who's parents are likely Utah Mormons, for those who don't live out this way) don't get a moment's glance from me.

But when I see Mykill, Jaycub, Genapher and that sort of thing, I heave a little sigh.

And if people see your son's name written and mispronounce it do you get upset. Roll your eyes, etc?

No. I'm fact my Grandma told me straight up, "That's too weird, I'll never remember it. I'm just going to call him Torey," and we just rolled with it. She was 90 at the time, what are ya gonna do?

I should mention that my Grandma is awesome, in case anyone thinks she was being mean.

No problem with weird names or ethnic first names. It's when near impossible to pronounce the name by the spelling is what drives me crazy.

Unfortunately, you're not the only one who thinks this. I ended my part-time seasonal employment last Wednesday... they're letting all seasonal personnel go. (But they called me on Thursday and asked if I could help them out Friday evening and all day Saturday, which I did. Sunday, I went in and rented the truck to pick up 25 split rails in order to fix problem areas in my fence. I walked around an said goodbye to everyone. The people in my department wondered who would reign supreme over crazyville now. :)
