Thanks to my good friends at Amazon I got an email full of products " I might like." And I'll be dam@@d if there wasn't a pair of virtual reality goggles pictured.Being the sucker that I am I clicked right on over to Amazon where I was confronted with loads of VR goggles ranging from 5-100 dollars.Where have I been? I had no clue! (I have since found out our son ordered a pair of these, tried them and sent them back without even sharing with me!!!). I recently read the book,Ready Player One,so I am over excited to stumble over these VR goggles.I read reviews 'til my eyes crossed and of course iphones seem to be the least supported device with these.I ended up spending $13.00 for a google cardboard kit ( as suggested by many reviewers)just so I can get a feel for it before spending more money on a "real" pair.BUT...... If anyone has 1500.00 to throw my way for a preorder of a high end VR set up I guess I could get that one instead:0: I will report back after trying these out!

I don't get it. What? Goggles to put on to see things that are things?
Now I have to see people looking into phones with strange glasses on?

Lol,you probably won't be subjected to seeing people wearing them as they won't be able to see anything other than the screen. They are goggles that you slide your phone into. You download an app at the app store to set your phone up for viewing. Then you download other apps. For instance......download a "space station" app and you get a 360 degree view/ tour of inside the space station.I am a bit skeptical but will give it a try.It would make a hermitlike existance all the better.

Did you see the story a few weeks ago where docs used Google cardboard VR glasses to do MAJOR surgery on a newborn? It was fascinating! I'd never heard of them before that story. I'll see if I can find it.

Doctors Use Google Cardboard to Save a Baby's Life

Wow! Amazing what thinking outside the box can do! So glad they were able to perform her surgery. Thanks for the link:)

VR goggles have been sort of the next big thing for at least 20 years now. If they ever actually can do as promised I would probably still not believe it. As long as the cardboard ones did some good, that's ok.It puts me in mind of the ads for x ray glasses on the back page of comic books in my youth.

I'm so non-tech that it's sort of embarrassing. This does sound like they did phenomenal things with that particular goggle :)

image.jpeg UPDATE:
Virtual Reality Goggles
I bought a pair of Google Cardboard VR goggles off Amazon for 10-13 bucks. They are literally cardboard.I wasnt expecting great things but just wanted to get a feel for it.I hot glued mine together, added some weatherstripping and electrical tape and gave it a whirl.So......
I downloaded a free rollercoaster app.It crashed.Josh kept telling me to do the free Insideous app ( duh....like I didnt know why he wanted me to do that!). So I watched it.It was short Neat to see,By turning my head left or right I could see the sides of the room. This was fascinating. So the app ends and Josh is disappointed by my reaction. He sends me a link and tells me to try it standing up.So I start it up......
Josh says,"You gotta turn all the way around and look all over." Well Holy Crap! Yup,I came face to face with a scary spook which gave me a jump. But beyond that you can literally turn in a 360 circle and see the entire room like you were standing in it.Floors and ceilings too. This was pretty freakin neat! The picture is kind of crap and it is not made for an iphone(especially a smaller one like I have ) but for ten bucks it's neat.If I had an android device I would definatly shell out 30 or 40 bucks for a "real" one.Unfortunatly for me apple products are the LEAST SUPPORTED type of phone.But.....still very ingenious.
