A tip of the hat to HollyGolightly, who, in Shasta's thread about about changing her screen name, suggested we start a thread for people to explain how they chose their names....so, here it is!

91rewoT...Being from a generation that did not grow up with computers, my sister and I were reluctant to join the message board. We had lurked around for quite some time, but couldn't quite take the plunge. Then came the opportunity to play an online game leading up to the much anticipated release of Under the Dome....but you had to be a member to play. We really wanted to play. So, sitting at our computers, 250 miles apart, speaker phones on, we journed together through the process of setting up our accounts....and then we had to pick a screen name. "What?! We have to decide right now?! Oh crap!" I don't know how long we contemplated different names (they had to be perfect, right?!), but I knew I wanted mine to have a "19" in it, and relate in some way to both The Dark Tower and the USAF...so "Tower19" seemed a good choice...and to make our names connect to each other, we spelled them backward...stephenking-gniknehpets...and somewhere along the line, it may have been at the Kon, we were dubbed "The Backwards Sisters"...

How did you choose your screen name? Explain.....

Well, my current screen name is my actual name. Although all internety-looking. When I first joined the message board I was King Jacob, though. That name started in high school when all of my friends started creating their own fictional countries (technically, I really started it). Mine was Jacobia and I was its self-proclaimed king. I used the name for everything at the time, too. But I changed it because after a while it started to sound too silly.

See, I have NO imagination...
When I joined, I used DebA913. Part of my first name, last initial, and my birthday. Recently divorced, I thought it best to omit the last name initial.(Not mine to use anymore!) So, I now just use my first name and my birthday. See? NO imagination. When and if my brain comes up with something really cool, I'll change it. :):smile-new::untroubled::lemo:

OK this may cause tears. When I first joined the board my username was girl87 I think members from the old board remember
this. On the old board we had once a thread about nicknames or something like that. And I posted that my friend use to call me
Jojo sometimes. And John Danglish reply to me that if he can call me Jojo instead of Johanna. I said yes of course to him and
after that I wanted to change my username to Jojo87. 87 is my birth year. So a thanks goes to our dear John.

...I've related it several times...so as to not nauseate the long timers-here's the abridged version...when I started in radio, seemed that everyone had a nickname...so I had to find one-stumbled across the band Gentle Giant, and the rest is moniker history!....:stupid:

@91rewoT - Thank you!!! It wasn't until @nate_watkins tipped us off that I got your name and your sister's. How very dull witted of me!

I'm loving these! @Jojo87 - girl, you were born the year I graduated from High School - I'm sad for all of you who missed the 80s!

Let me 'splain HollyGolightly: I was going through the Mean Reds when I joined the board - and I got that term from the fabulous Holly Golightly. I loved the movie and the book and Audrey Hepburn. My bossy cousin (who made me read Twilight!) pointed out that everyone might think I'm a lady of the evening - but that's kind of funny because I am so not that. But this board gave me a safe haven while I was struggling with the mean reds, and for that I am grateful. These folks are quite wonderful.

"Ghost", I work in an environment where everyone has some sort of moniker, "D", "M&M", "Burl", "Stash", etc. You know someone hasn't been working for us very long, if they still go by their real name. Anyway, that one was hung on me years ago because of my relative quiet nature and the work I do. The "19", of course, is my ode to Mr.King, hence "ghost19".

i frst started reading vampire and ghost stories when I was 6...

and since i'm so pale and had a lust for Victorian and vintage clothing in high school, they started calling me Vampire Lily.... I started writing and creating art under this name and so it stuck.

it's been my name for 30 years now~

Autumn Gust is also my Wiccan name. I chose it because autumn is the season where I feel most alive… I love EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of it. I picked Gust because it reflects my personality-- I'm a passionate person and can become very excited very fast about a lot of things.

I chose "blunthead" for the simple reason that not a day goes by wherein one won't find me performing deep breathing exercises with a… Not really.

Junior and senior years in high school were a magical time for me. I found myself part of a circle of close friends who some Power chose to isolate together. Other people and things also slowly became a part of whomever-we-were. These others helped comprise what in recent years I've come to realize remain a kind of mythology specific to our band of whomever.

One of these others came into our mythology one day when, while the rest of us were standing in the hall between classes, one of us who'd been looking down the hall said, "He looks just like Blunthead." None of us looked down the hall, but in wonder we all looked at the guy who'd made the pronouncement, as if to say Who the f**k is 'Blunthead?!'. So Blunthead became a permanent part of our little reality. Btw, this being 1969, the term "blunt" had not yet entered the American illicit narcotic lexicology. I chose my SKMB username prior to learning what the term had become synonymous with, in the hopes of drawing attention from old high school buddies or others who might remember good ole "Blunthead".

My real name is Dana, and Danie is my husband's nickname for me when he's trying to be sweet. I picked the name because no one else calls me that but him.
I spelled it this way because I'd never seen it printed. Since then, my husband has written it on cards, etc., and he spells it "Daney."

This is a great Thread!

I wasn't very creative just the first two letters of my first name and the first two letters of my last name.

Happy to see people are enjoying it! We had a similar thread on the old board, but there are lots of new members so thought it would be nice to get it going again. I like your screen name - it works!
