I've been to county jail three times. Longest stay was 3 weeks. The first was for a bar fight, they took me and the other guy in, let us sleep it off and released us without charge,The other two were over the same incident, I got a drug charge in 2005, bailed myself the same night out and never showed up for the court date. They pulled me over in 2010 and took me in. When I talked to my lawyer, POS public defender that he was, I told him I wanted to challenge the charge and have the drugs re-tested. By that time, the police had either destroyed them or couldn't find them (it was less then a gram, I would have likely gotten probation even if they had found them). Somebody in my Pod, what they call a "Jail House lawyer", had suggested I try it, considering the time gap and the fact that the charge had never been processed the first time, I didn't even stick around long enough to enter a plea, he doubted they still had them. I escaped a felony conviction by the skin of my teeth, but since I had already jumped bail once they held me until the process had run it's course, which took between 3-4 weeks. When the DA came back and dropped the charge, they gave me time served for the failure to appear.
I remember it being more boring then anything. The food was disgusting, I ate nothing but the bologne sandwich they brought us for lunch. I traded my Breakfast and Lunch trays out for lunches and would eat them for all 3 meals. I played cards, watched TV, and read books. I ran into a kid I had known in high school while on the transport bus to-and-from court, who was in there for a more serious charge. The phone system was expensive so I made very few calls. I did lose a decent job over the ordeal, which made for a rough next couple of months, but in the long run I wound up with a better one so I guess it worked itself out. The irony in it all is that by the time I got called to answer for all this I had already been sober going on 2 years.
Anyway, be glad your through with all that, just remember the experience every time you get the urge to do something risky. Works for me.
Welcome back
