Who would make a good Rainbird if this were adapted to a movie?

I'm not sure if you guys do this, but based on King's description of characters, I typically assign actors faces to the characters in my mind. None, IMO, was more easily assigned than Danny Trejo for Rainbird! Is that just me?

....ummm, George C. Scott played Rainbird in the 1984 film adaptation.....but, yeah-I do the same as you, and Danny would work great for a re-working of the film....

I've never gotten around to seeing the whole movie - I've seen bits and pieces.

A new Rainbird? Christian Slater is old enough now, and he's always been good at "creepily intense." Or "intensely creepy."

Wasn't Rainbird a native American? Remember Wes Studi,Last of the Mohicans,Dances with Wolves,etc..think he would be good,he can bring an ominous bent to the character..

Nicolas Cage. The good one and not the overexposed one.

Back when the original movie was done, I thought Will Sampson who played Chief from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest would have been awesome. Today I'm not sure but it is near mandatory they cast a Native American actor to play the part.

Gil Birmingham. Native American, tallish (not a lot of really tall Native men), good voice.

I do that also, and not only that, but I put a voice and accent with the character as well. Trejo definitely looks the part. His face already looks like he's got scars, just like Rainbird. But, like OldDarth said, it really needs to be an actual native American. Trejo almost has the voice down as well, and he could definitely learn the accent, but it's hard to picture him as anything but Hispanic.

Hah! Trejo is exactly who I had in mind. Maybe a few years younger though.

Lou Diamond Phillips did/does (I just started watching so I don't know if the show is still being made) a stellar job on Longmire. He's only like 1/16 Native but looks the part, and he's talented enough to pull it off.
