Just saw the movie Interstellar and loathed it. So boring and dull and tryhard. A great SK adaptation could have been made instead. Hollywood really has gone to the dogs. I hope The Long Walk is made, but by Darabont. There really are only a few good directors these days. The golden age of cinema, never to be again??

...There has been dreck for as long as there has been celluloid and now digital....it just seems that the stinkers and clinkers are winning...

It's all about the money. When you spend $50+ million to make a Hollywood movie they need a big return. They get that by casting Tom Cruise or some other big name in the lead role and having a script that panders to mainstream audiences (i.e. dumb it down and don't offend anyone). Fortunately, there is a robust independent film industry. With video on demand etc. it's easier than ever to watch just about any film that gets made. The trouble is finding out which ones are out there.

Arthouse is the best bet these days, anything non main stream.

I find they give you too much, nothing is left to the imagination, and its all loud and ultra violent. The innocence has gone.
...which hews close to the comic or graphic novel bone...the characters have evolved way beyond the innocence of the Golden Age of Comics...I'm from that era, and must say-I find the grittiness and action much more welcome...

With the big budget Hollywood movies, I think the only way I can enjoy them is to not worry about how they are going to end. Many of them are pretty good for the first 1/2 to 3/4 but when they get that stock happy ending tacked on, I want to puke. ;-D Just watch them until the happy ending starts and they are a lot better that way. They should have an intermission between the body of the movie and the happy ending so I know when to leave. ;-D
