Was the perfect compliment on M*A*S*H. Loved the episode where he was nervous about giving a sermon after alcohol was banned from the 4077th. Klinger finds some sacramental wine in Father M's tent while he is helping him don his robes for the service and gives the Father "some" to calm his nerves. He then gives his sermon drunk of course.

RIP

I agree with you GNT,he was so good in that role..he seemed perfect to play a gentle, kind, humble priest,he did such a great job..and so did Larry Linville,as Frank Burns, you almost forgot he was an actor and felt he was just a rotten little jerk, and Gary Burghoff,as Radar, boy, those actors made those parts theirs..RIP Mr Christopher,AKA Father Mulcahy..

....like Steve's written characters, those actors became real to me, not just a troupe playing make believe...

Yessir..not sure if it was written that way,but I think Radar's character, his father, was missing or never mentioned..so when Henry Blake was set to get on the helicopter, and he looked around, and saw Radar standing at attention and saluting, their goodbye, was like father and son..and then Radar comes into the surgical room and gives the news on his plane,it was really heart rending..

And that was sprung on the rest of the cast. They did not know that Henry would be killed. Those reactions -- like our own -- were true and natural. IMO, that is one of the single best moments of television ever.

I liked him in M*A*S*H. I remember reading where the actor that played 'Radar' was missing a finger or two and they always had him holding something if he was in a scene. The show wasn't as good when Frank Burns left. I like the episode where Leslie Nielsen is the gung-ho guy and they screw with his mind so he has to go to the cuckoo farm.

RIP. He had the most memorable scene in the series for me, during the news documentary episode talking about the doctors warming their hands over the open bodies of the patients they were operating on.
