I always like this one from The Breakfast Club. 80's kids will remember this one...especially if you didn't fit in like I never seemed to.
Relatively unknown film and soundtrack but one of my favorites:
Nothing against OMD, but I can name half a dozen current bands that are just as good or better.

Queens of the Stone Age
Foo Fighters
The Hold Steady
The Winery Dogs
Silversun Pickups
The War On Drugs
I know 4 and none of their styles are comparable to OMD, so it's impractical to compare them. I'll check out the rest though, thanks a lot. I'm always glad to discover new music.
Well, OMD was New Wave and there are no New Wave bands anymore.
Exactly! Still have to check out the new QOTSA album. I hear it's really good.
I picked it up last week. Not sure how I feel about yet. It's different from their normal stuff.

It's not the soundtrack, but "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins was just the perfect song for that opening sequence in Top Gun.
Okay, to soundtracks. I have to throw in LA Confidential. Sigmund had a thread "Awesome Movie Soundtracks," and I mentioned it there too. It's simply awesome. The score was spot-on to the era, and they interspersed it so closely to the movie sequences. Examples:
"Time to Hit the Road" as Dudley Smith is "encouraging" the wiseguys to take their business elsewhere. Within the brutality, it was somewhat humorous.
As Jack Vincennes is looking over Matt Reynolds, and the singer on the motel TV is crooning, "I have grown so much wiser now. Even foolish hearts can learn," it is just so pitch-perfect for the scene.
