Hey KRF-who actually receives Advanced Reader's Copies? People in the "industry?" I don't understand the process-wanted to ask this morning but was too embarrassed...:a11:
As you should be! You will now be flogged!!!! ;;D ARC's are supposedly sent out to reviewers at magazines, newspapers, etc. for them to read and review. But, they sometimes end at used bookstores or thriftstores, where I pick them if I want them. Some are sold on ebay, etc. which they're not supposed to. Marsha stomps on them if she finds out about them as King makes no moneys from the sale of these and it's copyrighted material. If you're lucky enough to have connections in the publishing industry (which I don't) you can get a hold of an ARC. I think that ARCs get sent to newspapers around the country also and then they end up donating them after a while to thriftstores.

So John didn't actually "buy" an ARC of Revival, right? And...thanks for explaining the process-I really appreciate it! =D

I sometimes feel embarrassed listing my low-dollar finds, but I have a poverty-level income and they are all treasures to me! I bought six books today for $11 total-BCE hardcovers of Dolores Claiborne, Full Dark, No Stars, Misery and Needful Things (all but one in good/very good condition). Plus a trade copy paperback of The Waste Lands AND a first edition hardcover of Duma Key!

He might well have. If he did he paid big bucks for it. I don't know how he gets his ARC's. The man has connections. I want to come over and play at his house!!!
Me too, darlin'! Me too!! ;;D I would even wear a hazmat suit (AND gloves!) and promise not to touch anything!!!!
There now i have the right quotes. now lets all meet up at Johns. His collections sounds amazing.

You need never be ashamed of where you get your reading material. Never! I'm just happy that you are reading, or that anyone anymore is reading.

^^I agree! You shouldn't be embarrassed! It doesn't matter where you get your books from! You have a nice collection, there! :)

Low dollar finds are the best ones. My hard back ex library copy of under the dome trumps any of those and probably anything else in this thread (except being given one for free) - 10 pence. I think in today's American money is about 16 cents or so. My most expensive 2nd hand book was Colorado kid for £5.55 and that's because it was very rare in the UK at the time, and extortionate, I got it online from America. If you don't care that they're not pristine, then pre owned books should be dirt cheap.

NEVER! Books are books are books--I don't care where they come from. I read voraciously, so if it wasn't for the secondhand store and the library I'd be living on the streets. Yeah, I should be tub thumping for buying new copies (and believe me, I appreciate every one of mine sold), but I can't be hypocritical about where people buy, since I'm a bargain shopper myself :)
